Nutter To Rally Against Litter

Mayor Nutter will participate in an anti-litter rally today, which part of a campaign against littering featuring spoken word poets.

Do you think the mayor (who has been known to pick up the mike and rap) will contribute a few rhymes?

Here's the press release:

Live Spoken Word and Musical Performances in Mayor’s Reception Room

WHAT: In front of a crowd of residents and community groups committed to creating a litter free and clean Philly, City of Philadelphia Mayor Michael A. Nutter will recognize the Philadelphia Streets Department and five local spoken word artists for the creation of and involvement in UnLitter Us- a sustained initiative and movement to rid Philadelphia of litter and create clean, beautiful and safe blocks.

In City Hall, the five spoken word artists- backed by live musicians- will perform their original poems that express their frustration with litter in Philadelphia and their dream of seeing it stopped. Their words, which are now being heard across the city, aim to turn apathy into action. Mayor Nutter will thank the spoken word artists and Streets Department for bringing inspiration to Philadelphia and leading the UnLitter Us movement, both on the streets and in the social media world.

Taking place on the eve of the third annual Philly Spring Cleanup, UnLitter Us @ City Hall will also serve to remind Philadelphians that there is still time to sign up for one of the next day’s nearly 200 neighborhood projects that will contribute to the cleaning and greening of Philadelphia.

This will be a highly visual and lyrical event that will feature remarks from Mayor Nutter, Commissioner Clarena I.W. Tolson and live spoken word and musical performances. Interviews with all city officials and artists will be available onsite.

Commissioner Clarena I.W. Tolson, City of Philadelphia Department of Streets Commissioner
