Check out this story in today's Philadelphia Tribune about the relationship between Mayor Nutter and City Councilman Bill Green. While the tension between the two has been written about before, Nutter does seem to let loose more in this article. Here are a couple of his quotes:
“He seems to have a theory that — if you look at the history of John Street, who antagonized his daddy (Mayor William Green Sr.) and antagonized Mayor (W. Wilson) Goode (Sr.) and then didn’t antagonize Ed Rendell because they had a deal — and then if you look at my history, which was maybe somewhat antagonistic from time to time with Mayor Rendell and seemingly very antagonistic with Mayor Street, that’s the way to become mayor is to antagonize mayors,” he said.
“John Street worked his ass off and had a record,” Nutter said. “I worked my ass off and I had a record. He doesn’t — on either. You have to produce. He has an insatiable need for attention.”

I was initially not a Green fan, but I am now converted. He is one of just a few Council members that really fights for the citizens with this administration. And who can blame Green for taking advantage of every opportunity?? Exposing the weaknesses of NUTTER's administration and appointees,is as easy as catching fish in a barrel". Nutter is incompetent as a mayor and he needs to move along...Maybe Green will run against him? CommonSense4Philly
Nutter is a one term mayor. Green Jr. is a carpetbagger from Atlanta who lives in a $1.2 million dollar house. His father left the city just after being mayor. Neither is good for Philadelphia. anti-tax

Go Green! defiore14
One of the 1st Duties as Mayor, is to protect the city from criminals. Mayor Nutter has betrayed us since he took office...period. Nutter was told that Rendell was shorting us on Public Safety by releasing every convict he could and NOT returning them to prison for Parole Violations since 2003! Nutter was told in time to save SGT.Liczbinski...he was told again in time to save SGT. McDonald,,,stop the Frankford Rapist, save that little 12 year old girl from being savaged, but no...he chose not to fight Rendell and let our loved ones and Heros die and families be destroyed. Ethically...Nutter should be investigated on charges of "Involuntary Manslaughter" and "Civil Rights Violations"...after 2 years of repeatedly being told in writing, with evidence and doing nothing (except walking at the head of COP Funerals)...ethically he just as guilty as Rendell. Now, before you start whoop'n on John Law...find out how many State Parolees are being released each month (the release rate = 55%, down from 67%... the national average is about 20%...Rendell is releasing up to 2,000 stone thugs per month!). How many State Parolees are being sent back to prison for Parole Violations per month? Minus absconders and new convictions...damn near ZERO! Questions? John Law
Bill Green is the only one of the clowns on City Council who has any clue what he is doing. 165Valley
One of the 1st Duties of the City Council is to protect the citizens of "Kiladelphia" from criminals! Especially when our "One Term/Reform Mayor REFUSES! For 2 years now the City Council was told, in writing, with evidence about Rendell dumping the cost of crime on us to free up well over $60 MILLION for "No Bid and Inappropriate" contracts (check with the Auditor General) to "Friends of EDDIE". He's releasing up to 2,000 stone thugs per month and hasn't sent them back to prison for serious Parole Violations since 2003! Too many families have literally bled to death for the priveledge of lining his pockets! AND our wonderful City Council was too busy stupping the help, sealing city cars and gas and counting thier "DROP" MONEY...OUR MONEY to care...remember all the City Council Scandals Mr. Green? All the BRUTAL MURDERS? All the RAPES? ALL the SHOOT OUTS? Burgess, the SERIAL KILLER AND RAPIST? The FRANKFORD RAPIST? Poor Sergeants LICZBINSKI and McDONALD? That poor little 12 year old girl that was savaged by Carisquillo? "Piggy", the murdered mother of 4 children? ALL STATE PAROLEES...we have well over 9,000 in "Killadelphia" now...AND our City Council just keeps on counting...What a great bunch of Public Servants...makes you proud... huh? The next STATE PAROLEE MURDER IS VERY CERTAIN AND VERY SOON NOW... Happy New Year Mr. Green :-) John Law
Whats nutter afraid of?Losing his job to green thats what. And rendell doesn't chase skirts.Pay attention. catnapper
Bill Green Sr was a congressman who passed away in the ealy '60's. Bill Green Jr was his replacement in Congress and, subsequently, the Mayor of Philadelphia. I don't know about the councilman, but the father and grandfather were real gentlemen. Mark Glaeser
First off, John Street is not a criminal and was never charged with any crimes. People who don't like him need to get the record straight. Second, and most importantly, this city won't move forward so long as ANY of these characters are "leading" the city. It is time for completely new leadership in this city. Return of Ed Rendell? Are you serious? Almost all that was good that was done when Rendell was Mayor was done by David Cohen, not Ed! We need to find Philly's version of Mike Bloomberg - now that is a mayor who gets things done. No more of these career politicians please. sbdons1982
One other point - crime is a symptom, not a cause. If this city is to turn around it must attack the causes. We need to greatly improve education, accountability (politicians, police, parents, and teachers), improve career training for the masses, and turn Philadelphia from one the least business-friendly cities into the most business friendly city in the region. When you educate people and create career jobs you attract better quality people and you uplift the people that are here. Just throwing more cops out on the street alone is not going to improve crime when far too many of them are not performing at the level that they should be (like hanging out downtown instead of patrolling the high crime districts) and we had a District Attorney who could not protect witnesses and a court system that let repeat offenders run free. The solutions to fix this city are complex and we simply don't have any current leaders who tell the whole truth and then work to fix them. sbdons1982
Green has been in Council for two years and has only passed three bills - much less than his colleagues. this is public record online at http://legislation.phila.gov/mattersearch/home.aspx. his three bills were the historic interiors bill, the trash dumspters bill, and the BRT bill, which by the way was drafted by Nutter seven years ago. its not a bad start but I would agree with Nutter that there is not much substance there, yet, anyway. rabbit23
Nutter accomplished little in city council and less as mayor. Council, in spite of the bad press and likely due to the freshmen, has had a stellar year, saving libraries, dealing with the BRT, blocking Nutter's insane property tax proposal - that's why he's afraid of Green, or anyone who might successfully run against him. btruth
