Nutter, Regional Leaders Meet With Guv-Elect

Mayor Nutter and top officials from the surrounding suburban counties are meeting with Govenor-elect Tom Corbett this afternoon.

Corbett is sitting down with the area's Metropolitan Caucus, a group that regularly brings together leaders from the five counties in Southeastern Pennsylvania, including Philadelphia, said Nutter's spokesman Mark McDonald. The gathering is in Doylestown, Pa.

"I think it’s a get to know you visit," McDonald said. "I think the leadership in  Southeastern Pennsylvania wants to talk to the Governor-elect about how they can work together with the new administration to bring more jobs and prosperity to this region, which is the single largest engine of growth in the Commonwealth."

McDonald said this was Nutter's first meeting with the Republican Governor-elect, who has publicly spoken about the need for budget cuts. Any such moves could put more pressure on the city's fragile economy.

Nutter and the county commissioners created the Caucus two years ago, modeling it on a similar network in Chicago. Among the members is Lieutenant Governor-Elect Jim Cawley, an outgoing Bucks County Commissioner.
