Mayor Nutter announced today that he has tapped Tim Wisniewski to be the city's new chief data officer, a position Nutter created.

Wisniewski, who was the city's director of civic technology, replaces Mark Headd, the first person to hold the title.

Headd, a vocal advocate for open data and government transparency, resigned in April over frustrations with the administration's reluctance to release a dataset on tax delinquency, according to Technically Philly. (City officials said they were concerned about privacy issues.)

Through executive order, Nutter in 2012 established the city's open data policy, which has led to the release of more than 80 datasets. Visit opendataphilly.org to check them out.
