We just received a poll that looks at how Mayor Nutter would fare against a Democratic primary challenge from former GOP mayoral candidate Sam Katz.

According to the survey from a new operation called Municipoll, Nutter leads Katz 38 to 34 percent, with 28 percent undecided. That result is based on robo-calls to 810 likely Democratic voters and the poll has a 3.4 margin of error. Municipoll President Ed Haggerty said they did not do this poll for any client, but simply to promote their new business.

Katz, who ran two unsuccessful Republican campaigns against former Mayor John Street, has not announced a run for mayor as a Democrat, so such a match up is little more than speculation. At this point in time it's unclear if Nutter will have any primary challengers in next year's election.

The poll also matches Nutter up against some other possible opponents. To review it yourself, check it out here.

Feh. Automated polls are notoriously unreliable. And nearly 50% of the people polled said Nutter was doing a good to excellent job; only 17% rated his performance negatively. It hardly looks like voters are ready to give him the boot.

why would I boot him? would Bob Brady has removed his wife from her noshow PHA board job? please. the nutcases that say he's the worst mayor aren't paying attention. he's annoying but the city is more competently run thanin the past, he just isn't able to make big changes. Nutter would have been a good mayor after rendell (instead of the God awful, irresponsible Street) but he isn't bold enough to fix the city in the manner that the new fiscal situation requires. the time for incremental change is past

Nutter lost my respect when his response to the economic crisis was to close pools and libraries. He may be well educated but he's sure forgotten about the people who live in the city. His administration has been a real disappointment.

Would you rather have the pool open and no cops on the trash-filled streets? Nutter is as handcuffed by the union slugs as anyone else would be. Those who believe good governance can be determined by whether the pool is open are incredibly short-sighted.

I love it. People who want more services but don't want their taxes to increase. There is no more money, people--the roaring 20s--I mean 2000s, are over. Nutter is running the city as well as he can with the resources available to him. John Street wasted a decade in which great things could have been done, instead we were treated to more screwups at Penn's Landing, demolitions of old houses, and a mayor who thought it was a good use of his time to wait in line for hours for a new cell phone.

It's at least an 8 year job to dismantle the huge, clandestine money sinkhole our elected officials have set up over the decades to bribe people into voting for them. There's currently no record keeping or accountability (E.g. the RDA didn't even know what properties they owned when Nutter took office), which means people are having to scramble to figure out what's actually going on before much in the way of actual fixing can happen. In spite of all that, Street's Philadelphia Safe and Sound den of thieves was dismantled shortly after Nutter took office, and the BRT and Clerk of Quarter Sessions have followed within 2 years. In addition, businesses are getting treated much better, even if the tax situation is the same or worse now than when Nutter took office. Would a bold businessman (Katz, maybe?) do a better job than Nutter has been? Quite possibly. Do we need Bob Brady or Chaka Fattah in City Hall? Absolutely not. I also think that, while Nutter could be doing more to promote the city, we don't need another Ed Rendell who seems to do a better job at creating an image that he's doing a good job than at actually doing one. One thing I've learned over the years is that doing what needs to be done, and being good at it, is often a low-profile, thankless task.

this poll isnt even weighted - no one thinks that 50% of the voters in a philly democratic primary are white. what a joke.

Could Nutter beat the Pied Piper if the election were held today?

Please run Sam, and get this incompetent baffoon out of our lives. Nutter has done nothing but produce sound bites, can't even negotiate union contracts, alienates those around him, has no vision, no talent, and questionable morals. Please save this city from him.

The percentage that can't make up its mind already don't want nutter. We need a new mayor in 2012. Vote nutter out!
