Danieal Kelly, right. Her mother, Andrea (upper left); her father, Daniel (lower left).

Mayor Nutter reacted with disgust a few minutes ago to a lawsuit filed by the parents of Danieal Kelly, the 14-year-old suffering from cerebral palsy who died two years ago from starvation.  Her parents, facing criminal charges for her death, filed a wrongful-death lawsuit against state and city on Aug. 1.  The city's the Department of Human Services had been tasked with monitoring her care.

"This is unfortunately one of the most insane, obscene and disgusting things I've heard in all my public life," Nutter said after an unrelated news conference, according to PhillyClout's Catherine Lucey.

Two DHS employees, two contract employees working with the agency and three friends of Danieal's family also face charges in her death.  Seven other DHS employees have been suspended.

Nutter added that while city employees may have been negligent in Danieal's death, ultimate responsibility rested with the girl's parents. "I can assure you that should we be successful in our defense, we will go after them for every dime the taxpayers have to spend," Nutter said.

The lawyer who filed this ridiculous lawsuit should be considered for disbarment. This is an egregious abuse of the civil courts.

What is the surprise here ? Nothing is too low for parents that would starve their disabled child...and as long as you have disgusting people like this, you will have attorneys who are willing to help them and themselves to the tune of 40% of the profit

law is a professional not worthy to enter into. I'd hate to be the attorney to handle that case. Might as well put a bulls eye on your forehead. What a waste of human life.

We can't blame the lawyers, although I too believe this was their idea to sue. The real victims are the other kids who will be placed in foster care, the same system that should have protected the little girl Danieal. (sp) Also, what is $50K going to do for these kids. The parents should rot in jail.

Any lawyer who actually would take this case seriously has an issue with ethics and morals. Agree with a prior writer,America has really become an entitlement country. Profitting from the death of an innocent child that you killed or helped to kill; its insane, and blood money.

They are vile and so are their attorneys. They will all have to answer for their actions before a higher power someday.

AMEN SIMON! I hope the Health and Welfare employees are better in other cities than they are in Philly (isn't that supposed to be "The Town of Friendship" - I have nicer ENEMIES!) If the Judge (just a former lawyer himself/herself) presiding over this case is ANYTHING like those crooked lawyers who came up with that lawsuit, I see no hope for justice for poor little Danieal.

If you want to know why these scumbag lawyers got involved, look no further than the media. They continued to point the finger at DHS, instead of the scumbag parents. The media is irresponsible in their reporting and this case is no different. They continued pointing the finger at DHS(government), so of course it was going to bring out the ambulance chasers.

These parents are home grown terrorists. They procreate out of pure greed looking to profit from the state. Imagine going to your boss and asking for a raise JUST because you're having another child. He or she would laugh you out of their office. But these professional breeders are paid to have children that they abuse and neglect who then in turn continue this cycle of entitlement. They are the primary reason an inefficient agency like DHS is even in existence. These scumbag parents feed off the system and the system feeds off them. Throw in a couple of Zajacs and Mildenbergs looking to profit off the suffering of a dead child and it all becomes even more sickening and bizarre. Its ALMOST enough to make you turn Republican.
