Kenney tells Chick-fil-A president to take a hike

POSTED: Wednesday, July 25, 2012, 5:56 PM

Chick-fil-A president Dan Cathy’s recent comments about gay marriage has caused quite a stir across the country and has City Councilman Jim Kenney fired-up.

Last week during a radio show Cathy said, "I think we are inviting God's judgment on our nation when we shake our fist at Him and say, 'We know better than you as to what constitutes a marriage,'" Cathy said. "I pray God's mercy on our generation that has such a prideful, arrogant attitude to think that we have the audacity to define what marriage is about."

Cathy later said that he is supportive of the "biblical definition of the family unit."

In a letter to Cathy, Kenney wrote:

"It is with profound disillusionment and a sense of deep sadness that I write this letter in response to your recent comments. Last week you expressed support for denying gay Americans the prized right of marriage that heterosexual couples in this country so freely take for granted."

"As an American you are legally entitled to your opinion, regardless of how insensitive and intolerant it may be, but as a fellow American and an elected member of Philadelphia City Council; I am entitled to express my opinion as well. So please – take a hike and take your intolerance with you. There is no place for this type of hate in our great City of Brotherly Love and Sisterly Affection."

And when City Council returns in September, Kenney said he will introduce a resolution condemning Cathy and the company. Check out the rest of Kenney’s letter here.

Does anyone find Kenney a little hypocritical? He is telling Cathy to take a hike based on him being intolerant towards gay marriage. But isn't he being intolerant towards Cathy and his religious beliefs when he tells him to take a hike. I love how if anyone has any morals or beliefs that differ from liberal media they are cast out. How fitting that Lisa Henson also has turned her back on Cathy....she's a puppet like Kermit and the rest of the gang.

Romans 1:18-32 says it all about what God thinks about homosexuality in the Christian belief. It's a choice one makes that will determin their enternal future. Mr. Cathy is entitled to his belief, and what he says is not targeting anyone choosing this lifestyle because he know God has given us all a free will to choose, so i don't know why he is being chastised for this. i would be more concern about the political corruption and how tax payers are being spent than about his comments or personal belief. God bless you Mr. Cathy! At least you have the guts to stand up for your belief and keeping the faith! By the way, your chicken sandwich and waffle fries are the best!

Sorry but Romans 1:18-32 explains WHY homosexuality exists in society. "For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness;" THE EVIL AND REFUSAL "BY SOCIETY IN GENERAL TO ACCEPT GOD" caused him to,,, For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature: IF WE WANT TO FIND THE "TRUE" REASON THAT HOMOSEXUALITY EXISTS,, ALL WE HAVE TO DO IS LOOK IN THE MIRROR. WORD !!! Need more proof and an answer as to what Christians need to do,, read 2 Ch 7:14.
    If my people,, etc,, etc.

Of course no one will follow the instructions of 2 Chronicles 7:14 because of what Matthew 15:7-9 predicts. To easy to hate others and feel above them to trust God to do what he says that he will do.

[Ye] hypocrites, well did Esaias prophesy of you, saying, This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with [their] lips; but their heart is far from me. But in vain they do worship me, teaching [for] doctrines the commandments of men.

Christian Conservatives,,, what a joke. If this bunch touched a Bible it would explode.

I think Cathy should consider trying to make some spicy waffle fries and throw them on the menu. Oh....and I agree with his views on gay marriage. But let's get working on the seasoned waffle fries too.

LUV comments... usually so much more informative than the articles! Seems like us regular folk want any and all business to invest in city and let the worker and buyer decide whether to subscribe. Oh but to bring religious/ political affiliations to light, w/o a public gatekeeper like Kenney assumes to be, or newspaper articles like this, would mean grass root effort to raise awareness when a biz like chickfila is already around the corner. Curves is another one that subscribes to neo xtian practices.....are they in
Philly? I am interested in the "ripple" affiliations of the people I support with my transactions....I also like chicken sandwiches...what to do?

Absolutely despicable for these grandstanding gutless political hacks throughout this country to publicly berate Cathy for voicing his anti=same=sex marriage position. These politicians and their ilk are far worse for society than Cathy = and far more honest.

Work out your own salvation with fear and trembling,,PHIL 2:12
As a christian I am obligated NOT TO MARRY ANOTHER MAN. I am also obligated to "get" (introduce by words AND BY ACTIONS) people to JESUS, only he can heal them, only he can clean them up. For me to attempt to force MY Christian lifestyle on others smacks of selfrighteousness. Read 1 Corinthians 13,,,, he who has an ear let him hear. A one word hint to the secret of Christ that so many of the selfrighteous amongst us miss,,,,LOVE,,, without it one is, as Christ put it "WHITED SEPULCHRES.

Christ commanded us to "Preach the Gospel" (not give OUR interpretation of it) obviously we don't know what that means,,so here goes,,,

The word gospel derives from the Old English gōd-spell [4] (rarely godspel), meaning "good news" or "glad tidings". It is a calque (word-for-word translation) of the Greek word εὐαγγέλιον, euangelion (eu- "good", -angelion "message"). The Greek word euangelion is also the source (via Latinised evangelium) of the terms "evangelist" and "evangelism" in English. The authors of the four canonical Christian gospels are known as the four evangelists.

"Originally, the gospel was the good news of redemption through the propitiatory offering of Jesus Christ for one's sins, the central Christian message".
GUESS THAT WAS FORGOTTEN SOMEWHERE ALONG THE WAY,, (no pun intended).

Just keep in mind-franchisees own the Chick-fil-a restaurants. So if you boycott them you are hurting someone who may not even have that opinion.

I fully support gay marriage, religious and freedom of expression as stated in our constitution and defended by the blood of a whole lot of Philadelphians and others for over 200 plus years. But as for this low down political hack, Kenney... what a sanctimonious, self serving "troll". Oh wait, he is a politician. That explains it. Lately, these drones on City Council know and care not a whit about everyone's constitutional rights.

A denoument': "There is no place for this type of hate in our great City of Brotherly Love and Sisterly Affection.", (Kenney letter). Does this mean that only a "brother" can love and a "sister" must be limited to affection? Mr. Kenney, you are as shallow as as pond scum.
