Kenney tells Chick-fil-A president to take a hike
Jan Ransom
Chick-fil-A president Dan Cathy’s recent comments about gay marriage has caused quite a stir across the country and has City Councilman Jim Kenney fired-up.
Last week during a radio show Cathy said, "I think we are inviting God's judgment on our nation when we shake our fist at Him and say, 'We know better than you as to what constitutes a marriage,'" Cathy said. "I pray God's mercy on our generation that has such a prideful, arrogant attitude to think that we have the audacity to define what marriage is about."
Cathy later said that he is supportive of the "biblical definition of the family unit."
"It is with profound disillusionment and a sense of deep sadness that I write this letter in response to your recent comments. Last week you expressed support for denying gay Americans the prized right of marriage that heterosexual couples in this country so freely take for granted."
"As an American you are legally entitled to your opinion, regardless of how insensitive and intolerant it may be, but as a fellow American and an elected member of Philadelphia City Council; I am entitled to express my opinion as well. So please – take a hike and take your intolerance with you. There is no place for this type of hate in our great City of Brotherly Love and Sisterly Affection."
And when City Council returns in September, Kenney said he will introduce a resolution condemning Cathy and the company. Check out the rest of Kenney’s letter here.

It’s unfortunate that your brain is the sub -standard model.
Treat people the way you want to be treated.
How hard is that to understand?
Kenney scoring political brownie points with the faithful. Like the rest of our do-nothing Council. everydayguy
What brought Rome and Greece down? Pride, Arrogance and Homosexuality.
We are next.
As the Gman says in his latest book, "When I was a Kid, America was a Great Country" LJM- Rome fell because the populace focused more on the arts and sciences and less on the military. Because of that, the military swelled with foreigners who cared little for the glory of Rome but only for the power of it. That military class eventually overthrew the Roman ruling class and began the dark ages, a time when might trumped reason. Try reading a book before you post a comment.

An open letter to Kenney..... you too can take a hike! Who cares what you say? If you are offended then turn the other cheek! zjimmyjcb
Jim Vitetta Kenney is a prime example of why there should be term limits on City Council members and why no member of City Council should have another job besides their council job. Look at a financial disclosure form from Kenney and see all of his sources of income. I am shocked he had the time to write that trivial letter seeing as how he spends most of his time in North Wildwood in the summer or at Vitetta down at the Navy Yard. Funny how Kenney mentions the "prized right of marriage that heterosexual couple take for granted". Look in the mirror Kenney and your own personal situation. You are in no position to be discussing marriage. Michael T. Welsh
Kenney uses his position to criticize an individual's religious based personal belief system, and wants City Council to join him...beyond the pale... TomTheCork
Typical. Liberals ask for tolerance but then they have no tolerance for people who have a difference of opinion to theirs. Hey I'll present a proclamation so the special interest group that makes up a small percentage of my constituency sees I'm standing up for them. How about you do something about the section 8 housing in your city of Brother love or sisterly affection. You are a pandering fool Kenney. Mr. Barffington- You're so right. We should tolerate terrorists. We should respect the opinion of pedaphiles. Another dumb Republican. Do what about Section 8 housing? Or was that some type of incomprehensible racist statement?

Cathy's dogmatic beliefs has no relevance in American citizens equally being protected by the United States Constitution. American citizens are not members of his social club that subscribes to hazing, superstitions and religious myths. Dexter
well i know i'm not voting for you... so i hope u take a hike RichH
let's analyze this Jimmy boy.. You are one of the leaders of a city that is morally and financially bankrupt and you are taking time out to blast a private businessman who probably pays more taxes to the city in one week than you have paid in a lifetime??? 6 out of 10 black babies are born with no Daddy in your city Jimmmy boy..
I am going to Chick Fil A tomorrow and will double my order in honor of you.. jaydg22
I made a point of buying a sandwich there today. Jean Valjean
I wonder if Kenney will have a "do you support gay marriage" survey so he can weed out the anti-gay marriage movement. Interesting he doesn't kick the Church out of the city. Soon, he'll pass a law requiring all anti-gay marriage supporters to wear a tinky winky patch over their hearts. palmyra21
Whether the guy hides behind the bible or not, he's a bigot. Bigots like Cathy are very selective about what they choose to believe or not to believe from the bible. It also says that we are all God's children and that you should love your neighbor. I don't believe that single out a particular group and claiming that they are bringing the wrath of God on the country is remotely Christian. It's bigotry. He's the arrogant, ignorant person who is interpreting the bible for everyone else. And he's getting it completely wrong. Fostering hatred is not what Christianity is about. I'm sure Hitler was a true believer in his beliefs too. There's nothing to admire about a person who perverts a religion. MikeP
