Friday's DN-- Freech Report: They all knew

POSTED: Friday, July 13, 2012, 11:14 AM

An extensive investigation into the Penn State University sex abuse cover-up revealed that everyone knew and did nothing. Penn State leaders and Gov. Corbett could have done more. Unfortunately they were just concerned about themselves.

Philadelphia police officers remember Officer Brian Lorenzo a 23-year veteran who was killed Saturday night by a drunk driver.

You’ll have to wait a little longer to find out the actual value of your property.

And here's your weekly dose of PhillyClout.

Philosopher Edmund Burke once wrote: "Flattery corrupts both the receiver and the giver."
Joe Paterno's memory is now stained by scandal. People are talking of having his statue removed from its place of honor and thrown away in shame. Was he a willing conspirator? We'll never know, and his absence makes it unjust to put him on trial. But, by deifying him (and for that, most of us have a measure of blame), we forced him to try to cover up the one stain that he must have suspected of being able to ruin his reputation. To a man in his latter years, a reputation is more valuable than anything else. Thus, he became a prisoner of his public image. Before throwing that stone at the sinner, we need to consider the bit of guilt we ourselves have in this tragic episode.
Shakespeare said it well: "The evil that men do lives after them; the good is oft interred with their bones."
