Ethics Board Hits McCaffery With Campaign Finance Lawsuit

The Philadelphia Board of Ethics just hit Dan McCaffery's campaign for District Attorney with a lawsuit, claiming he and his treasurer "deliberately violated the city's campaign finance law" by taking in too much political action committee money in 2008 and misstating the amount the campaign took in from a PAC run by his law firm.

The Philadelphia Board of Ethics just hit Dan McCaffery's campaign for District Attorney with a lawsuit, claiming he and his treasurer "deliberately violated the city's campaign finance law" by taking in too much political action committee money in 2008 and misstating the amount the campaign took in from a PAC run by his law firm.

The Board of Ethics goes on to say that McCaffery, who faces four opponents in the the Democratic primary for District Attorney one week from today, came up with a "scheme to hide the excess contributions" by reporting some of the money from his firm's PAC in 2008 and the rest in 2009.  The Board is seeking a $6,000 penalty and an order from a judge forcing McCaffery to return the rest of the contribution.
