Sen. Joe Biden's Pennsylvania roots are definitely being emphasized as he steps into his new gig as Democratic VP candidate. Both Biden and presidential candidate Barack Obama mentioned that Biden hails from Scranton during their announcement this afternoon. And I've already gotten two emails from the campaign about Biden's Pennsylvania and Philly connections.
So does the Biden pick boost the chances that Republican presidential candidate John McCain will chose former Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Ridge as his running mate? Ridge has popped up on many a short list in recent weeks, although some question his support of abortion rights.
Ridge would be a huge help for McCain in the Keystone State, widely considered a swing state in this presidential election. McCain has made repeated visits to the state throughout the summer and is within striking distance of Obama in the polls.
While Fox News reports that the McCain campaign says their decision won't be influenced by the Obama VP pick, we have to wonder if they're thinking pretty seriously about Ridge today.

If McCain picks Condi the race is over. He probably won't, just to keep it interesting. Echo- Yes, Ridge's chances have been improved, but I still don't think his stance on abortion will let him be chosen.

Tom Ridge is a good man... however, he has a ZERO percent chance of being McCain's VP. The GOP will NOT pick a pro-choice person... period! As an aside, expect Obama's support of killing aborted babies out of the womb (Sadly, I'm not making this up... Obama has not supported giving babies out of the womb, that were aborted, but born alive, medical attention... please read for yourself... again SAD but true!) to be a HOT topic now until election day! the only vp choice that will help the ticket is huckabee s1360m
McCain picked his running mate two days, but can't remember who he chose, so the process will have to start all over again as soon as McCain can figure out how many houses he has. finngov
Keep rippin' McCain you Obama Supporters. Getting a little nervous now? BobbyD
John McCain is not in control of his party. The extreme right wing is. So even if he wanted to choose someone like Ridge whom I think is vastly superior to Romney, the Right will issue a resounding, "No." One of things McCain is trying to do, is move the GOP slightly further to the center, with a number of centrist speakers at the convention. We'll see how that goes. At the moment, McCain is stuck in right. politicod
If McCain picks Ridge he could contract McBush fever. Ridge was not successful as Director of Homeland Security. Remember Katrina, those duct tape remarks, and those traffic light style security alerts? Peter of Manassas
