The watchdog group Committee of Seventy just put out the latest installment in their informational series on the city's financial woes. Today's installment is called "Pensions: The Elephant in the Living Room." You can read it here.

"in the Living Room Room?" Did you mean to type "room" twice?

In the interest of objectivity, I'd like to see a brief identifier of who the Cttee of Seventy is. Seventy what? Plus, the Cttee of 69 ward leaders and the mayor are likely to have significant biases as to how the pension plan is run. For example, the document states that it is "normal" to have unfunded pension liabilities nationally, when in fact Philly's unfunded pension liability is much more severe they you see typically. The paper is a faux objective bit of justification of the status quo that favors increased city payments and decreased benefits over increased defined pension contribution, as is the case typically. Let's just be real.

By paper I mean the CoS "informational series" of chummy chit-chat that leaves out some points of view that are key to the debate.

CleanupPhilly - are you just playing dumb or are you this dumb? The Committee of Seventy is not made up of the ward leaders and the mayor as you seem to infer. Here's the link. www.seventy.org You can find out for yourself what the organization is about.
