City Council Candidates To Kick Off Campaigns

Here comes the busy political season, when candidates across the city dive into the election cycle for what is shaping up to be a monumental year of change in City Council. Here's a partial calendar: - State Rep. Kenyatta Johnson will announce his campaign for Council's 2nd District seat, being vacated by Council President Anna Verna, at noon tomorrow at Tindley Temple United Methodist Church, 750 S. Broad St. - City Councilman Curtis Jones Jr. will announce his bid for a second term in Council's 4th District at 10 a.m. tomorrow at the Crowne Plaza Hotel Philadelphia West, 4010 City Avenue. - State Rep. Denny O'Brien will announce his candidacy for a Council At-Large seat Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Rosewood Caterers, 8888 Frankford Ave. Councilman Jack Kelly is stepping down from one of two At-Large seats reserved for Republicans. - City Councilwoman Jannie Blackwell will announce her hid for re-election to Council's 3rd District seat at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 15 at the First District Plaza, 3801 Market St.
