City says all Made In America costs are paid for

POSTED: Wednesday, September 19, 2012, 4:47 PM

Mayor Nutter today announced that concert promoters have paid all city expenses related to the Made in America concert over Labor Day weekend.

Nutter said Live Nation has paid a total of $505,124 for the city costs incurred by the for-profit concert outside the Art Museum, featuring rap mogul Jay-Z. That includes a $200,000 security deposit and a payment today of $305,124.

Nutter did not break down exactly where the money went. The contract for the event - provided by the City Controller's Office - lists estimated costs for city services at $500,000, with the following split: police, $220,000; Fairmount Park, $120,000; emergency medical services, $90,000; sanitation, $60,000; licenses and inspections, $10,000; and health, $1,000.

Nutter said the show was a huge economic boost for the city and let the world know Philadelphia can put on big events.

"There's a lot of interest on both sides to try and have this again," he said.

Hopefully this will quiet all of the whiners who thought the city was gonna have to pay millions in tax dollars for the concert. Mind you, most of these whiners don't even live in the city but out in the burbs.

I hope MIA comes back for next year.
The concert went on in my neighborhood and I got to hear the music for free when I walked down the street to the Art Museum.
    Nice!

Good Job Mr Mayor, as the whiners are out in force of in defense of Mitt "Dressage" Romney, it is also good to point out we did not have to build a $400 Million enclosed Taj Mahal arena, along with tax breaks and highway improvement. We used existing capital assets, the Parkway and Art Museum, which are just laying around anyway, not doing as much as it should. We did get hotels filled, tourists, fees, free publicity and a Hollywood production documentary of the whole event. More should be done with less like this.

I call BS on this one. What about all the fire apparatus and personnel not associated with EMS? Where are the costs associated with that. What about fixing all the ruts in the baseball field?

Hmmm JJJenn, maybe that would be the 120k that went to fairmount park. Just because it wasnt fixed immediately doesn't mean they aren't going to do it. They were waiting for events like the rock n roll half marathon to be over. Genius. Win/win for city, where are all of the usual cretins today?
