Chick-fil-A cluster-cluck: John Dougherty chides Dom Giordano for column about Jim Kenney

POSTED: Tuesday, August 7, 2012, 4:42 PM

John Dougherty, head of Local 98 of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, used the Philly.com comments section today to chide WPHT-AM radio host Dom Giordano for a column in today's Daily News that accuses City Councilman Jim Kenney of "pathetic pandering and grandstanding" on the Chick-fil-A controversy.

Dougherty, who acknowledges that he and Kenney have not always seen eye-to-eye, took several pokes at Giordano in the 183-word comment.  They include:

  • "Only hope Dom comes home one night to find his son holding hands on the sofa with a male companion while watching "Brokeback Mountain.""
  • "Only hope Dom finds his daughter in a lip-lock with another girl while they're watching "The L Word.""
  • "Wonder if the embroidered "D.G." initials on Dom's custom-tailored shirts actually stand for "Demi-God"?"

Kenney entered the Chick-Fil-A fray two weeks ago after company president Dan Cathy spoke out against gay marriage, opening up a new deep-fried front in the culture wars.  Kenney vowed to submit to City Council a resolution condemning the company.  Kenney also said he would not interfere with the city's negotiations with Chick-fil-A to renew an expired lease for a restaurant at Philadelphia International Airport.

Dougherty, while running for the state Senate in 2008, told the Liberty City Democratic Club that his daughter came out to him as gay two years earlier, which led him to question his definition of marriage.  A Local 98 spokesman confirmed that Dougherty made the Philly.com comment today.

Please cite one case of Chic Fil A discriminating against gays. Gay employees have come out in support of Cathy. You are wrong to say that with no proof.

So much civility... Oh I forgot, rules(and class) don't apply when the left's panties get all in a wad. Johnny, take two mediprens and call your OBGYN in the morning, you whiny b***h. Boy , that rant was rather cathartic. No wonder the left can't help themselves

    Palyme-

"Didn't the Mormons fund Prop 8? Stop them from building their temple. Why isn't the LBGT community locking lips in front"

Many groups "funded" Prop 8. The important part is the fact that it won not because of Mormons or Republicans, it won because members of the Black and Hispanic communities who voted FOR it!! 60%-40% for Obama; 52%-48% FOR Prop 8. So, what did the haters do? Went to the temples and demonstrated. Never once saw them in the 'hood at the Baptist church, never in the barrio at the Catholic church...INTERESTING!! LOL!!!

Oh yeah and answer this LGBT question: It looks like you have a marriage plan for LG what about B? What if B wants to marry a man and a women...you for that too???

As of 2011, the combined percentage of CA's African-American and Hispanic population was 45.5. It seems to me, therefore, that whatever number of A.A.'s and Hispanics voted in support of Prop. 8, it wouldn't have passed without a whole lot of white folks voting likewise.

I haven't eaten at a Chick-Fil-A since the early 80s at the latest. Wasn't a fan of their food. I also don't agree with their stance on this issue, but it's almost irrelevant since I wasn't going to go there anyway.

For those protesting the local restaurants, though, keep in mind that the employees of Chick-Fil-A are being caught in the middle of this. They didn't decide on the company stance and I'm sure many are very much against it. Some are gay themselves. But they need to keep their jobs just like anyone else in this economy.

Ate a very good spicy chicken there today. As fast food goes, they are the best. Recommended to homosexual and heterosexual alike.

I loved the commercial with Johnny Dope running around in an Eagles helmet. Who knew there was an official sport called 'gay football'?

Instead of blaming the hard-working union man, we should be blaming the people that started this mess, the bigoted Religious Right Republicans, who are out to destroy gays in every way possible. If Romney is elected, I have no doubt laws protecting gays will slowly disappear. Look at how Romney viciously attacked his gay high school classmate. Republicans are hate mongering filth that all belong in jail for their crimes against humanity.
