Chick-fil-A cluster-cluck: John Dougherty chides Dom Giordano for column about Jim Kenney

POSTED: Tuesday, August 7, 2012, 4:42 PM

John Dougherty, head of Local 98 of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, used the Philly.com comments section today to chide WPHT-AM radio host Dom Giordano for a column in today's Daily News that accuses City Councilman Jim Kenney of "pathetic pandering and grandstanding" on the Chick-fil-A controversy.

Dougherty, who acknowledges that he and Kenney have not always seen eye-to-eye, took several pokes at Giordano in the 183-word comment.  They include:

  • "Only hope Dom comes home one night to find his son holding hands on the sofa with a male companion while watching "Brokeback Mountain.""
  • "Only hope Dom finds his daughter in a lip-lock with another girl while they're watching "The L Word.""
  • "Wonder if the embroidered "D.G." initials on Dom's custom-tailored shirts actually stand for "Demi-God"?"

Kenney entered the Chick-Fil-A fray two weeks ago after company president Dan Cathy spoke out against gay marriage, opening up a new deep-fried front in the culture wars.  Kenney vowed to submit to City Council a resolution condemning the company.  Kenney also said he would not interfere with the city's negotiations with Chick-fil-A to renew an expired lease for a restaurant at Philadelphia International Airport.

Dougherty, while running for the state Senate in 2008, told the Liberty City Democratic Club that his daughter came out to him as gay two years earlier, which led him to question his definition of marriage.  A Local 98 spokesman confirmed that Dougherty made the Philly.com comment today.

Again - the stupidity on here is staggering. No one cares that the head of Chick-fil-A is against gay marraige - it's that he gives millions of dollars to far right-wing organizations and says ugly and unprovoked things about the gay community.

You want stupidity? How about the fact that Obama's position evolved to support gay marriage, and the Democrats in congress have the power to introduce legislation to legalize gay marriage yet they won't for fear of losing the black vote, yet the gays are busy going after a Chicken Joint. That is embarrasing, and I am a Republican who has no problem with gay marriage.

For comparison, see Ben and Jerry's. The right could care less about them, and they are way more political then Chic Fil A.

If anyone comes out looking it stupid, its the gays who are being played by the Democrats like a fiddle.

Wow, am I the only one who thinks that Dougherty's comments are an insult to gay people?

Maybe the Mayors of Chicago and Philadelphia can stop criticizing Chic Fil A long enough to go out and collect the bodies of the innocent victims of homicide that litter their respective Cities. And Mr Dougherty and the rest of his pandering Democratic pals can help out if they like since they have made sure that the City has had Democratic rule for voer 70 years that has led to the destruction of the middle class in the City and left in its wake a populatio that overwhelms the City with service requests like police, fire and child and health services while provide little or no tax contribution to the City to support those services. This sideshow the Democrats play would be laughable if for not the tragic reality that peoples lives are at stake daily for doing nothing more than walking down the street. The Democrats in those respective cities and their so called "leadership" should be ashamed!

Just STFU Doc! And Henon and the rest of your goons too, how about putting your efforts into more serious issues facing this city instead of grandstanding for exposure and print by coddling the likes of the DN and Humpty Dumpty Brennan who will do anything to promote your agenda for a few bucks.

I love a CEO that enriches himself by clustering a dozen or more malformed chickens in a plastic cube they are unable to even wiggle in and force feeds them to fatten them up for the slaughter and transforms the massacre into a fried chicken pattie covered in mayo and dill pickles. He's an amazing human being.

The mayo comes in packets, Chic Fil A does not put it on the sandwich. Your ignorance is astounding.

I love the idiot Right-wing rant that always calls any union member a thug...a common brain-washing technique where they dehumanize their enemy to make it easier to hate...most people stop the name-calling in grade school...

FYI, Private company's still get tax breaks from the Government -- which are paid for in part by gay Americans. Why the F should gay Americans be paying to support CHick FIl A's right to discriminate?
