State Rep. Babette Josephs, who has represented Center City's 182nd District since 1985, just conceded Tuesday's Democratic primary election to her challenger, attorney Brian Sims. Here is the statement her campaign spokesman just put out:
“My congratulations go out to the Democratic Nominee Brian Sims and all of his supporters Throughout many difficult, but successful races in my long service, I have consistently said that the voters are always right. I cannot change my tune now. I am truly grateful to the voters for allowing me to serve them for so long and for the opportunity to work with so many dedicated, talented, patient and professional colleagues, staff members and volunteers.
“I have always been about policy first, so I look forward to working with Brian Sims to represent the very special constituents of the 182nd. I will find other ways to contribute to my neighborhood, city, state, and nation.”
Sims, an attorney active in gay and lesbian issues, held a 226-vote lead from Tuesday's voting. The City Commission started its official count this morning, which included 139 absentee ballots and five alternative ballots in the 182nd District.
Sims, who served as campaign treasurer for Josephs in 2010, has no Republican opponent in the Nov. 6 general election.
- Amazing how much stupidity is displayed on here. Babette never had a 'safe' seat - and she wasn't in there because the 'Democratic machine' supported her - quite the opposite. The 8th ward more or less did - but the other wards did not. But I guess folks on here just 'copy and paste' various anti-Democratic remarks - so why bother knowing such things as 'facts?' But I guess the internet did finally kill that annoying thing known as 'facts.'
- I'll bet those guys over at Woodies - where Brian Sims had his victory party - could have a lot of fun with that metaphor you chose to use.
- I meant to post that as a response to Beethoven 987's comment three above SoundGround's, sorry...
