A brief history of Rick Santorum thoughts on Mitt Romney

POSTED: Tuesday, August 7, 2012, 12:02 PM

It's a predictable part of presidential campaigns that candidates say harsh things about their competitors in primary elections but then eat those words when they have to endorse the victor.  It's chow time for former U.S. Sen. Rick Santorum.

The Republican National Committee just announced that Santorum will be one of the "headliner" speakers at the party's convention in Tampa, which starts Aug. 27.  Here's a statement the RNC released on Santorum's behalf:

"I am so passionate about this election because the core principles of our country are at stake. The Republican National Convention is an important time for us to rally behind Mitt Romney and his vision to put our country back on track. We need a leader in the White House who is committed to reforming government."

SantorumExposed.com, a web site set up in 2005 to target the then junior senator from Pennsylvania as he was challenged by Bob Casey Jr., is still around and was keeping track as Santorum vied for the Republican nomination for president this year.  In a video released to YouTube Friday, SantorumExposed.com shows Santorum endorsing Romney for president in 2008, then ripping him repeatedly this year, then endorsing him again after dropping out of the race.

The cognitive dissonance gets pretty deep about two and a half minutes into the video, when Santorum asks: "Are you going to vote for someone that says one thing one day and says anything that’s necessary the next day to win? Or are you going to vote for someone you trust?"

I may not agree with Obama and the rest of the dems, but I would never say I hate them. These are fellow Americans you are talking about, not the "bad guys".

Jeez Neocon, could you get any more dramatic? There is ignorance on both sides, but when you start "hating" people with different political beliefs, it is time to take a step back from politics and reanalyze your life. It is not healthy to be filled with so much hate for those that are different then you. There was an article on here about Rick Santorum's daughter being readmitted to the hospital and people were laughing and saying she deserved it. I realize the right says just as nasty things, and I would never defend those posts. Click on your profile at the top right of the screen. Other then your "this is how we do it" post, its nothing but angry and hateful messages. What positive does this add to your life? Does it make feel good or superior to constantly be so serious while insulting anyone who thinks differently then you? We all cried on 9/11 never forget that.

. . . as opposed to the left-wing cretins that post their fantatical neocon drivel all over Philly.com everyday and attack everyone that's not a liberal progressive. You should all get together and run for Congress. You'd fit in perfectly -- on both side of the aisle.

Who did you reply to? Neocon? It looks like all his comments have been removed. I guess the moderators finally saw how hate filled he was.

Rick santorum - THe man who says colleges teach liberalism, yet has 3 degrees - the man who since birth has been o the goveernemnt teat, and already has the golden pension and healthcare forever - but wants to deny any kind of those same sucure future to all americans, the deeply christian man who advocates war with iran. (hmm, I thought all pursuit and support of war was a mortal sin as decreed by vatican II and the pope is infallible, no?.
I am happy Ricke is on the list - if any americans watch they can see firsthand what a potential future dicator looks like....

Rick is a very smart politician who will say anything to promote himself or his causes. He stayed in the race a long time with little money.
