7th District Debate Crowd Likes John Street For Council

Daily News City Editor Gar Joseph dipped into the field of unscientific survey last night while moderating the debate between Councilwoman Maria Quinones Sanchez and her challenger in the May 17 Democratic primary election, former Councilman Dan Savage.

Joseph, aware that PhillyClout was about to report that former mayor John Street is considering a run for a Council at large seat as an independent in the Nov. 8 general election, took a moment to ask the debate crowd what they thought about that.  He reports that the notion received a hearty round of applause from the audience.

Philadelphia has a long history. So there may have been a stranger election season sometime in that past.  But we can't remember one.  Don't take our word for it.  Consider what we heard yesterday from Street, brother of the former state legislator and ex-con running for mayor this year.

"This is not your everyday, garden-variety election," Street said.
