No Splashy Re-Election Announcement for Nutter?

POSTED: Thursday, January 6, 2011, 10:56 AM

Today marked Mayor Nutter's first official campaign event -- an endorsement announcement from District Attorney Seth Williams. It was an understated morning event outside the Criminal Justice Center with both politicans.

But the campaign isn't working on a flashier kick-off any time soon. Nutter is not currently planning a big re-election announcement where he'll be surrounded by fawning elected officials and booming Motown music, his campaign said today.

"I think they just decided to go with he’s running again and jump right in," said campaign spokeswoman Sheila Simmons. "We went straight to the endorsements right before Christmas and right today. We went right in without the big kickoff."

Back in 2003, then-Mayor Street announced his bid for a second term at a rally at the Community College surrounded by party officials and before hundreds of supporters. Simmons said Nutter is just going to keep rolling out endorsements and other campaign events.

Will Nutter change his mind and do a big event later on? We'll have to wait and see...
