Fresh off a new poll showing Gov. Christie is running a close second for the Iowa Republican caucuses in 2016 (!!!), the governor was asked today at a town hall meeting in Ocean City about whether he would run for president in 2016 (!!!).
Christie has left the door open for a future presidential run ever since he turned down the chance to run this year. His remarks today, though, depending on how deeply you parse each word, may give the strongest indication yet that if you're a huge Christie fan, vote for Obama in November -- because a Romney loss means a Christie 2016 candidacy.
"If there's an opening for a Republican in Washington, we’ll certainly think about it. But my job here first is to finish the job you gave me for four years...If there’s an opportunity for me to serve in another capacity and I think I have something to add, I don’t think I’d back away from it."
"I don't think I'd back away from it." There you have it. No word yet on 2020. But for the record, gubernatorial son Andrew Christie will be eligible for the presidency in 2030.
