Bittersweet adieu for longtime detective

When Tredyffrin Township Det. John Bailey ended his shift on Thursday, he bid farewell to a 34-year career in police work, one that he believes has prepared him well for his new position as a magisterial district judge.

"Thirty-four years went by so fast," he said, making his last day "very bittersweet ... I was blessed to work for a great agency, but I felt like it was time to change lanes." Bailey won election last month to the district judge post in West Whiteland Township.

Bailey said he believes his background, which includes  a master's degree in the administration of justice from Fairleigh Dickinson University and graduation from the FBI Academy, will facilitate his transition to the bench. He also served as the first Chester County District Court liaison officer, a post that was established in 1990. "I'm very excited about this new opportunity," he said.
