Police: Weekend of boozy wrecks, thefts

Police in West Whiteland Township arrested four people over the holiday weekend for assorted infractions, three of which involved alcohol or drugs.

On Saturday morning, police responded to a reported auto accident in the Fairfield Place Shopping Center on East Swedesford Road, where the driver of a 2008 GMC Yukon crashed into the Panera Bread Company and fled. The vehicle, which sustained heavy damage, including a blown-out tire, was located at the other end of the shopping center, police said. When officers found the driver, Elizabeth Kelley, 45, of Exton, she appeared to be intoxicated, failed field sobriety tests, and was arrested for DUI, reckless driving and leaving the scene of an accident, police said.

Later that day, employees of the Kohl's Store on West Lincoln Highway observed Alexander C. Fitzgerald, 21, of Chester, take clothes into a fitting room and exit with three shirts underneath his own, police said. He was charged with shoplifting.

On Sunday at 9 p.m., police said Jeremy M. Adamkoski, 31, of Coatesville rear-ended a driver stopped for a red light on Pottstown Pike at the Exton Bypass. Adamkoski, who appeared intoxicated, was taken into custody after he failed field sobriety tests, police said.

Finally, Cheniece C. Simmons, 23, of Philadelphia, was charged with theft, receiving stolen property, leaving the scene of an accident, drug possession and possession with the intent to deliver on Monday. Police said she and an accomplice left the Macy's store at the Exton Square Mall with $1,000 worth of stolen clothing. When store employees tried to detain them, Simmons drove the wrong way out of the shopping center and struck another car. Her passenger fled on foot, and she tried to flee in her black Kia, but it was too damaged, police said. Simmons, who was in possession of "a large amont of marijuana," was committed to Chester County Prison after failing to post $5,000 cash bail, police said.
