Spraying targets dastardly blood-suckers

The Chester County Health Department will conduct a mosquito-spraying operation tomorrow from 8:15 to 11 p.m. in West Chester Borough and West Goshen Township.

The Chester County Health Department will conduct a mosquito-spraying operation tomorrow from 8:15 to 11 p.m. in West Chester Borough and West Goshen Township. Samples collected in the area have shown high numbers of mosquitoes that could potentially transmit West Nile virus, a county news release said.

The areas to be treated are bordered by the following roadways: High Street, Westtown Road, Route 202 and East Union Street. A map of the spraying area is posted on the county's web site: http://www.chesco.org/health/lib/health/map_files/TreatmentArea24.htm.

County officials said the treatment will be administered with truck-mounted equipment that dispenses a permethrin insecticide at a rate of 1.5 ounces per acre. Officials recommend that residents stay indoors and keep windows closed for about an hour after the spraying has been completed.
