Chester County man cited for heroics

An Exton man will be honored Wednesday by the West Whiteland Township supervisors for his bravery in rescuing the victim of a car crash before the vehicle went up in flames.

The West Whiteland Township Board of Supervisors will recognize a local resident for his bravery after a one-vehicle auto accident on Feb. 27.

Police gave this account: David Reynolds, 26, of Exton, acted decisively after he heard Ronald Gantz, 24, of Broomall, crash his car in the 300 block of W. Lincoln Highway, a few yards from Reynolds' home. A fire had started, and Reynolds saw that the door was jammed, trapping Gantz in the vehicle. Reynolds reached in through the driver's window and pulled Gantz from the burning wreckage. When police arrived, the vehicle was engulfed in flames.

A ceremony will be held at the supervisors' meeting Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. in the second-floor meeting room of the township building. "Had Mr. Reynolds not acted quickly and decisively, Mr. Gantz would have perished in that fire," said West Whiteland Sgt. Martin Malloy.
