Roommate selection system improves satisfaction

West Chester University said freshmen who chose their roommates last year were happier with their selections than those who did not.

Freshmen at West Chester University who used a Facebook-app to select their roommate can look forward to a smooth transition - if last year's experience is any indication.

The university for the second year is using RoomSync, which allows students to choose their roommates. Last year, 85 percent of students who used the service said on a survey that they were satisfied with their choice, compared to only 65 percent who didn't use the service, the university said.

"It's a fact that students who get along with their roommates adjust well to college life, do better academically and are more likely to be retained," said Loretta MacAlpine, a university spokeswoman.

The school also has seen fewer complaints about roommates, she said.
