Camden County College and La Salle University in Philadelphia have signed a transfer agreement to give students at the community college conditional acceptance to the university.

Any student with a 2.5 grade point average graduating with specific majors will be guaranteed admission to La Salle, without a full transfer application or other criteria, under the terms of the agreement.

The agreement takes effect in the fall, covering the following Camden County College majors: biology, business administration, chemistry, communication, computer science, criminal justice, English, environmental science, history, law, government and politics, liberal arts and science (A.A.), liberal arts and science (A.S.), liberal arts and science — pre-nursing option, mathematics, and psychology, according to a news release.

This type of partnership has become more and more common, with community colleges using it to tout themselves as affordable, attractive entry points for students who want to go to college without committing immediately to the cost and environment of a four-year college or university.

With partnerships, the four-year schools can extend their geographic reach and create new student pipelines without investing heavily in freshman recruiting and admissions.

Camden County College has established new agreements with Rutgers-Camden in the last two years, and Burlington County College has done the same. In Gloucester County, the community college changed its name to Rowan College at Gloucester County to recognize its partnership with nearby Rowan University.

Camden County College has completion agreements with several area schools, including Drexel University, Philadelphia University, Temple University, and Widener University.

The majority of La Salle’s agreements are with two-year colleges in the Philadelphia suburbs. In New Jersey, the university also has an agreement with Mercer County Community College.

In the 2013-14 school year, 25 students transferred to the university through those agreements, a spokesman said. This school year, 18 students transferred to La Salle through those agreements.
