Delaware Valley College in Doylestown will triple the size of its "Hope of the Harvest" garden that iin the past year grew nearly 16,000 pounds of food for people in need.
The garden started with one acre on the college's main campus in February 2012, college officials said. Two acres were added this growing season at the college's Center of Sustainable Agriculture in North Wales. Those additional acres have been plowed, and will be planted as soon as there is enough dry weather. Crops include peas, corn, peppers, collard greens, kale, watermelons, cantaloupes and onions.
"We're hoping to start harvesting crops for this growing season in mid-August," a college spokeswoman said.
The garden project is a partnershp between the college, Philabundance and the Bucks County Opportunity Council.
