Campus cops' 'rap sheet' is a hit

The campus cops at the University of Delaware have a new role as rap singers, and they're attracting a lot of attention.

The cops at the University of Delaware are really hitting the rap sheet.

And students, among others, apparently love it.

The campus cops have created a rap to Drake's hit "Hotline Bling" that tells students how to connect to safety and security help when they need it.

Their new code name is #CopLineBling.

"You can all us on the blue phone," they coo, as they groove and swivel. (The blue phone refers to the blue light emergency phones on campus.)

"Call us your cell phooonnneee. Whenever you need our help."

"You can feel safe safe, you know what we do."

"If you feel threatened, just give us a call."

Get this: The video has garnered nearly 940,000 hits.

The musical cops tell students how to use LiveSafe, an app that connects them to the police department, where they can report anonymously or with their names. Students can share photos, video and audio files with the officers in the command center, according to a press release from the university.

The university said the new technology already has helped the police department to rescue a student who had alcohol poisoning, help another with a mental health emergency and catch a robbery suspect.

"The officers who 'star' in our video know you sometimes have to go the extra mile to capture the attention of students on our campus," Jason Pires, University of Delaware Police Captain, said in a statement. "The video gets out the word that we're — really — here to help, while the LiveSafe technology increases and improves the information we receive, cuts our response time, and helps us keep the community safe."
