Camden's youth needed for East Camden coat drive

St. John Baptist Church in Camden is looking for city youth to volunteer donating more than 200 coats Saturday at the church. It is part of a larger effort to get youth involved in positive activities.

Camden's youth needed for East Camden coat drive

Brian Lawrence is determined to change Camden’s negative image.

Lawrence, a minister at St. John Baptist Church, has helped organize a coat drive for the city’s less fortunate. But he wants Camden students to be the ones working the coat drive Saturday at St. John.

“Enhancing the power of youth,” and a “new appearance of Camden,” is Lawrence’s mission.

He has created a Facebook page: Camdens YEmpowering Change, to promote the effort and future events. Youths should sign up on the page if they are interested in volunteering in Saturday’s drive or future events.

The drive, co-sponsored by the East Side Civic Association, will take place from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at St. John Baptist, 400 N. 30th St. in Camden.

More than 200 coats will be given out.
