Police looking for potential burglars about missing saddle, coins

A custom-made horse saddle, valued at $10,000 and covered in an elaborate collection of silver plates, was among the items stolen from the Sellersville Auction House a few months ago, according to Perkasie Borough Police.

Now, authorities are seeking help in identifying two men who may have made off with it - as well as $27,000 worth of coins.

Det. Sgt. Russ Closs, Jr. said Monday that about a week before the items went missing, two men - one wearing what appears to be a Metallica t-shirt - visited the auction house to ask about the saddle and coins.

On Monday, police released surveillance pictures of the men, saying that the men may own a green Saab, made in the late 80's or early 90's.

Det. Sgt. Closs, in an e-mail described the saddle as are a "Chief Deluxe" parade horse saddle. He said it was custom-made by Ted Flowers, and that he was told it was rare.

Roger Allgeier, owner of Brighton Saddlery in Brighton, Colo., said that silver-plated saddles were Flowers' speciality, and that they were often used in the Rose Parade in Pasadena, Calif.

"Anybody that collects saddles will know of Ted Flowers," he said by telephone.

Police are encouraging anyone with information about the men in the photo to call either the department's anonymous tip line, 267-517-0099, or the main department number, 215-257-6876. Emails can be sent to info@perkasiepd.org.
