The Bristol Township School District released a statement this week regarding the traffic accident last weekend that claimed the life of a district elementary school student and injured another.

The accident occurred around 6:30 p.m. on Friday in Lawrence Township, N.J., when a tractor trailer made an illegal U-turn and smashed into a Chevrolet Tahoe being driven by Shaqwan Tisdale, 25.

Jamella Tisdale, 25, was killed, as were Javeon Durante, 9, a James Buchanan Elementary School student, and 3-month-old Jaden Tisdale.

Shaqwan Tisdale and Mellady Durante, 8, also an attendee of Buchanan Elementary, were injured in the collision.

The driver of the tractor trailer, Richard Williams, 45, of Brooklyn, N.Y., has been charged with three counts of death by automobile.

Full text of the statement, which was released Monday by superintendent Samuel Lee, is below.

Good Afternoon Bristol Township School District Community,

It is with profound regret and great sadness that we received the news of the tragic accident Friday night that claimed the lives of Ms. Jamella Tisdale and her sons, 3 month old Jaden Tisdale and 9 year old Jaevon Durante. Injured in this accident were Mr. Shaquann Tisdale and Mellady Durante.

Both Jaevon and Mellady are students at our James Buchanan Elementary School.

Jaevon had many friends and was part of a close group of students who had been together since kindergarten. He and his sister Mellady, are an integral part of the Buchanan community.

We understand the challenges brought about by this terrible loss. Tomorrow our pupil personnel staff will be available for counseling and support to students from 9 am through 4 pm at Buchanan.

I know you join us in extending our heartfelt sympathy to Jaevon, Jaden, and Ms. Tisdale as well as hope and prayers for the recovery of Mellady and Mr. Tisdale.

Please do not hesitate to contact Buchanan if you have any concerns or questions.

Sincerely,

Samuel Lee, Ed.D.

Superintendent
