Bensalem stabbing victim identified

Bensalem Township Police have identified the victim of a fatal stabbing incident on Sunday as Jacob Simmers, 19, from Bensalem.

Simmers was allegedly stabbed twice by 20-year-old Joseph Romano at a home on the 1000 block of Kasmir Avenue and found dead on the kitchen floor by police officers.

According to a criminal complaint, Romano and Simmers were friends, and Simmers had come over to "help" Romano, though the complaint does not specify why.

Romano told Simmers to get out, the complaint says, then dragged Simmers into the kitchen, where he stabbed him. Police found stab wounds in Simmers' chest and abdomen, the complaint says.

Police responded around 2:30 a.m. Sunday, according to the complaint. They found Romano sitting in a chair, and he allegedly told them, "I took mushrooms - I'm dead."

There was drug paraphernalia and suspected marijuana in the home, according to the complaint.

Romano was arrested and charged with criminal homocide and related offenses.

He is being held in Bucks County Prison without bail. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for April 15.

Police and the Bucks County District Attorney's Office said the case is still being investigated.

Simmers' family declined to comment Monday.
