Food, water, showers for Sandy victims
Bensalem and Bristol Townships and Neshaminy School District are helping residents still without power from Monday's storm.
Bensalem Township residents who are without power can pick up military-style Meals Ready to Eat (MRE's) and water today until 5 p.m. at the Public Works Department on Byberry Road.
Use the Byberry Road entrance to the municipal complex between the Public Works Department and the Bensaelem rescue Squad headquarters.
In the Neshaminy School District, Poquessing and Carl Sandburg Middle Schools will be open today until 6 p.m. for residents to take showers and charge their phones, school board member Mark Shubin said.
Poquessing is at 300 Heights Lane in Feasterville; Sandburg is at 30 Harmony Road in Levittown.
The Bristol Township Council says:
While supplies last, bottled water and Meals Ready to Eat (MRE's) are available to residents of Bristol Township, Bristol Borough and surrounding communities who have been without power in the wake of Hurricane Sandy. They will be available outside the Bristol Township Senior Center from 8AM to 6PM Friday, 11/2/12, and Saturday and Sunday, 11/3/12 and 11/4/12, from 9AM to 3PM. The senior center is located in the Municipal Complex at 2501 Bath Road. Food will be distributed until supplies run out.
The American Red Cross is operating an emergency shelter and warming station at the Benjamin Franklin Middle School located at 6401 Mill Creek Road. This facility has showers. The shelter at the Bristol Township Community/Senior Center is now closed.
The Bristol Township Emergency Operations Center will continue to operate until the State of Emergency Disaster is officially over. The EOC's phone number is (267) 812-2930.
Please contact your Homeowner's Insurance Carrier immediately to initiate a claim for any property damage, if you have not already done so.
Residents are warned to be careful of unscrupulous contractors taking advantage of residents and price gauging during this stressful time! Ask the contractor to see a copy of his Bristol Township and/or Pennsylvania Contractor's License before you agree to have any work done.
