Heckler to discuss fatal police shooting

POSTED: Monday, July 30, 2012, 1:33 PM

District Attorney David Heckler has scheduled a 3 p.m. press conference to discuss the investigation into a Perkasie police officer’s fatal shooting of Michael Marino on June 9 in Sellersville.

The officer shot Marino in the chest while trying to arrest him, county officials said at the time.

The officer also was wounded in the incident, Heckler said.

Gee, I wonder what he will say? "Hostile", "combative", "threatening" etc etc "reasonably believed" the unarmed mentally troubled man was going to "kill" them or cause them "serious bodily injury". DA's are elected and need the support of police unions to look good to us voters at election time. DA's have to work with LEO's day in and day out in and outside of court. They need the cooperation of LEO's to be effective. They have strong institutional ties that make it extremely hard for them to look at a LEO's potential criminal conduct objectively. It would be better for all, and the integrity of the system, if these incidents were investigated and prosecutorial discretion exercised by folks outside the normal LEO circles where the incident happened.

According to the Bucks County Courier, this guy was handcuffed when shot. I think we need a federal investigation into the cesspool DA's office, as well as most Bucks County Police Depts. Let the civil lawsuits begin. This is beyond belief. Bucks County Police shoot more civilians, per population than most major city police depts.

Nice way to cover up for your cop buddies there Mr. DA. Since when is it ok, even justifiable to shoot a handcuffed individual? What life threatening harm could he do to the officer?

No charges against officers per DA's verdict. The victim was high on synthetic marijuana and off his mental health medication. A combative person can be very dangerous and force may well be needed to subdue them. You cannot judge the force used by the officers if you were not in their shoes.

Deceptive headline: Not knowing Bucks County politics, my first thought was, "Oooh, tough audience."
