Head of Doylestown Hospital to retire after 23 years
During tenure of Richard Reif, the hospital has grown significantly.
Doylestown Hospital President and CEO Richard A. Reif plans to retire by the end of the year after more than 23 years in the post, the board of directors announced Wednesday.
Reif is a "visionary" whose tenure has had a tremendous impact on the hospital and the community it serves, board chairwoman Carolyn Della-Rodolfa said n a written statement.
During his his career, the hospital added the Main Wing, a new Emergency Department and private rooms; acquired the Pine Run Community; built the Health & Wellness Center and expanded cardiovascular and oncology services. A MossRehab inpatient facility is scheduled to open June 27 and an outpatient wound care center is set to open July 2.
He was a founder of the Bucks County Physician Hospital Alliance, one of the oldest physician-hospital organizations in the country, and was behind the creation of the Bucks County Health Improvement Partnership, CB Cares and the Ann Silverman Community Health Clinic.
Reif joined Doylestown Hospital on June 1, 1989 as president and CEO. Before that, he filled the same positions at Union Memorial Hospital in Baltimore. He also worked at Jeanes and Friends Hospitals in Philadelphia and South Nassau Communities Hospital in Oceanside, N.Y.
The Doylestown Hospital board said it has retained a healthcare leadership organization to assist its Leadership Advisory Transition Committee in replacing Reif.
