The Perfect Pitino
Rick Pintono is undefeated in regional semifinal games.
Thursday night, Rick Pitino ran his record in regional semifinal games to 10-0. That is made all the more impressive by the fact that four times his club was the lower seed. (Those 10 games are listed below.)
Two little-known facts about Pitino's coaching career:
♦ His NCAA Tournament debut came at the Palestra in a opening round, 70-58 loss to La Salle on March 15, 1978. (Princeton vs. North Carolina A&T was the other game that night.)
♦ His NCAA head-coaching career began with six games for Hawaii at the end of the 1975-76 season, when Bruce O'Neil was relieved of his duties.
