Single Digits

A half-dozen quick stats that caught our attention recently ... including a couple to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the 1973-74 Flyers' Stanley Cup Championship  ...

Bernie Parent set an NHL record for goalies that season by playing in 73 regular season games, a mark that would stand until Grant Fuhr broke it with 75 in 1987-88. Fuhr holds the current record with 79 (1995-96).

♦ Can you name the player that has his name on the Stanley Cup for having played eight playoff games (including all six Finals games) with the Flyers that season but never played a regular season game for them ... Step up and take a victory lap if you answered left wing Bruce Cowick, who was lost to the Capitals in the expansion draft that following summer.

♦ The Phillies' Jimmy Rollins enters Tuesday's game in Miami with 2,213 hits, just one behind Joe DiMaggio on the all-time list ... By the way, the Phils should be well rested; they have had six days off over the last 22 days. I know late-night sports radio hosts that work more often that that.

♦ Former Phillie Ed Delahanty is having himself a heck of a season, despite being dead for 100 years. Check it out HERE.

♦ Tigers designated hitter Victor Martinez now has 11 home runs and nine strikeouts. Only two players since 1960 have finished with at least 10 home runs and had fewer Ks than HRs: Barry Bonds, 2004 (45, 41) and George Brett 1980 (24, 22).

♦ LeBron James is now 0-7 all-time in playoff Game 1s played on the road.
