Single Digits

We go all-Tony Gwynn Sr. today, in honor of his passing ...

♦ He finished with more doubles than strikeouts ... in 12 different seasons.

♦ Gwynn had 18 consecutive seasons of hitting .300 or better.

♦ In 2,467 career games (regular season and playoffs), Tony Gwynn had exactly one game where he struck out three times ... That happened 11 times in the 15 MLB games played Sunday.

♦ Gwynn hit into 29 double plays in his 180 career games against the Phillies. Only the Astros turned two on No. 19 more often (31).

♦ His highest finish in Most Valuable Player voting was third in 1984, his first full season.

♦ The Clippers (then in San Diego) selected Gwynn with their 10th-round pick in the 1981 NBA draft.
