Ryan Howard's Two Big 0-Fers

Comparing Ryan Howard's two longest 0-fer streaks.

Ryan Howard's two-run single in the 10th inning Sunday snapped an 0-for-18 streak, which was the second longest 0-fer of his career. He had gone 23 at-bats (27 plate appearances) without a hit over a seven-game stretch in May of 2011. (Yes, both were during the same month of the year, which happens to historically be his worst month average-wise.)

During that 2011 slide, his batting average dropped from .275 to .236. He was hitting .282 before this drought hit and was down to .244 before his game-winner Sunday.

He had a much higher strikeout percentage in this year's skein (10 of the 18 ABs), and all of them were swinging strikeouts. He also failed to draw a walk in 2013's 0-fer.
