The Phillies pitching staff, which has been striking out opponents at a pretty good pace all year (they are second in the National League to the Brewers), has really upped the ante in September.
Through nine games this month, the Phillies' hurlers as a whole are averaging 9.40 strikeouts per nine innings.
Here is the month-by-month numbers (through Wednesday):
| Month | IP | K | K/9IP |
| April | 204.2 | 167 | 7.34 |
| May | 262.2 | 250 | 8.57 |
| June | 250 | 241 | 8.68 |
| July | 208 | 203 | 8.78 |
| August | 263 | 239 | 8.18 |
| September | 97.2 | 102 | 9.40 |

As always, Boop has shown us an impressive stat. With the exception of August, they've gotten better with the strikeouts with each passing month. If they get to October playoff baseball, then I wouldn't be surprised if they average 10 Ks a game! Dobie Gillis
