Want to win a Stanley Cup? Simply go out and get yourself a couple of former Flyers.

Each of the last four NHL champions have had at least two players appear in playoff games that had played for the Orange and Black. And six of them were Philadelphia draft picks, four of those first-rounders.

The first-rounders include Mike Richards, shown at left with the Stanley Cup after his Kings defeated the Devils earlier this week.

Those 10 former Flyers that have won Cups in the last four seasons:

   2012 LOS ANGELES KINGS
Former Flyers Flyers GP    Drafted by Flyers
Mike Richards 453 2003 (1st, No. 24)
Justin Williams 226 2000 (1st, No. 28)
Jeff Carter 461 2003 (1st, No. 11)
Simon Gagne 664 1998 (1st, No. 22)
   2011 BOSTON BRUINS

Makes you wonder how good the team would be if management had just a little patience.

Missing a solid playoff goaltending. It's haunted us since Bernie retired. We would have had two cups by now if we had a goalie who could stop a puck shot from beyond the top of the circle (Hextal/Snow '97)or from along the goal line (Leighton 2010).

Post lockout, add in Brind'amour, Recchi, Williams in 2006 and Fedoruk and Joe DiPenta (Phantom) for 2007...Detroit did not have any former Flyers in 2008.

Management? Perhaps, but what about some of the fans? Everyone wants JVR shipped off at just age 23 (and a stellar post-season when he was healthy) and people are STILL posting about getting rid of Briere after yet more great post-season stats! In fact, I've even seen posts bashing Giroux after he had a brief stint without a point. Maybe the management should stop listening to loonies and the media who all think they can run a hockey team. In any event, whatever happened to spark the last trade has given the Flyers a very bright future. Let's hope everyone stays patient with THIS team!

TheSpectacularGiroux....Danny Briere has the most overrated postseason stats of all time. He puts up points, but he doesn't do what it takes to win. The guy in the photo at the top of this page, does ANYTHING to win. Briere is a career defensive liability. I don't know if you watched the playoffs this season, but it isn't how many goals you scare that helps you win. It is how many you prevent. Statistically this year, the two worst defensive players (per 60 minutes of playing time) were Brayden Schenn and Danny Briere. All that, and Briere makes 6.5 million dollars per season. I would love to see him gone...but his contract makes that an impossibility.

The great Hexy endlessly bashing Briere. Danny has 109 playoff points in 108 playoff games, which puts him in an elite list of top NHL scorers who have averaged over a point a game while competing in over 100 playoff games. This places Briere in the company of all-time greats like Joe Sakic and Guy Lafleur. Briere "doesn't do what it takes to win." ROTFL In the 2010 Stanley Cup Finals Briere finished with 12 points, one shy of the all-time record of 13 set by Wayne Gretzky. Briere probably would have broken Gretzky's record if Hexy's hero hadn't choked the Cup away in the 6th game.

Sorry Hexy - Richards DOES not do anything to flat out win - if so the Flyers should have had two or three cups then.....your argument is way way way way way way way off base.

Hexy, I completely agree with you that Richards works hard and plays to win. Many people were quick to bash him, too. I also think that Briere has that same work ethic. He can't help the fact he's a smaller guy, but he compensates by playing hard. Granted, he's not a two way player (think Kovalchuk). If we had a solid defense and less injuries, would it matter? You can't honestly tell me his playoff points did not help the team. They could use someone like Knuble to hang around the net and then Briere could work his magic down low more easily. That is something they've been lacking a bit since he left. That's how the Wings do it!

Again, missing from the list is former Flyers draft pick Colin Fraser...3rd Round, 2003. Traded at the deadline in 2004 to Chicago for Alexi Zhamnov.

Fraser now has two rings in three seasons...one in Chicago and now one in Los Angeles.

How could you leave out Colin Fraser, drafted by the Flyers right after Richards and Carter? Won not one, but TOW Stanley Cups on the fourth line.

Fraser never actualyl played any regular season games for the Flyers, which is how we missed him.

Ruslan Fedotenko also won in Tampa after being traded from the Flyers. Recchi won with Pittsburgh and Carolina. I just wish Philadelphia could find a way to play together and not stop until they win the Cup.

BVJR...Fraser is STILL a Flyers connection, regardless of whether or not he played for them. He was a draft choice and was their property at one time. He belongs on the list.

He has been immersed in sports statistics since the early 70s, when his father (long-time sports writer, broadcaster and the Daily News’ Buck The Bartender), would take him into the Bulletin newsroom overnight in the summer and let him update the Phillies statistics in a little, black spiral notebook.
