Eye Openers: Phils Pitching To Bat

How Phillies pitchers have fared at the plate so far this season.

The Phillies and the Cardinals are the odd teams out of Interleague play for the next couple of days, so they will meet in a three-game set in St. Louis. Now that they are back on National League terrain, the Phillies pitchers will once again take their turns at the plate.

Here is how they have fared there so far this season:

EYE OPENERS

♦ The Rockies' Jason Giambi has started just 11 games this season, but he has hit all seven of his home runs in those games. That includes his three-homer game May 19 at Citizens Bank Park against the Phillies. He is hitting .289 as a starter, .133 in 19 appearances off the bench.

♦ On Saturday, the Brewers' Rickie Weeks led off the game with a home run, but it was an unearned run charged to Red Sox starter Jon Lester. Boston first baseman Adrian Gonzalez had dropped a foul pop by Weeks for an error, giving the Milwaukee second baseman new life in the at-bat.

♦ The Red Sox Monday night reached 14 runs for the sixth time this season. They are 6-0 in those games.

♦ The Marlins haven't won a one-run game since May 26 (1-0 at San Francisco). They have lost 11 one-run games since then.
