Now, this is starting to get real bad ... historically bad.

The Eagles have lost four consecutive games by at least 13 points for the first time since 1976 and just the third time in their history. In 1971, they managed to lose each of their first five contests by at least a baker's dozen.

We even checked out the two most recent winless teams in NFL history. The 1976 Bucs (0-14) lost each of their last six games by at least 17 points. The 2008 Lions dropped each of their first four by at least 13.

Here are the Birds' three runs of four 13-point losses:

 Date  Opponent    W-L    Score  Margin
 Sept. 19, 1971    at Bengals    0-0  14-37      23
 Sept. 26, 1971  Cowboys    1-0    7-42    35
 Oct. 3, 1971  49ers    1-1    3-31    28
 Oct. 10, 1971  Vikings    2-1    0-13    13
 Oct. 17, 1971  at Raiders    3-1  10-34    24

 Nov. 14, 1976  at Browns    5-4    3-24    21
 Nov. 21, 1976  Raiders    9-1    7-26    19
 Nov. 28, 1976  at Redskins      7-4    0-24    24
 Dec. 5, 1976  Cowboys  10-2    7-26    19

 Oct. 28, 2012  Falcons    6-0  17-30    13
 Nov. 5, 2012  at Saints    2-5  13-28    15
 Nov. 11, 2012  Cowboys    3-5  23-38    15
 Nov. 18, 2012  at Redskins    3-6   6-31    25

It was obvious last year that there was a team mental meltdown and that a coaching change was needed. So this year is the responsibility of the owner who did not make the coaching change, Andy gave us many years of good football but it was time for a change.

The team and AR were carried on JJ's great defense. Minus JJ the Birds have gone from mediocre to downright Kuharich...

    Why is this a surprise?

For this failed season, it all started with the death of a drug dealer at Lehigh training camp.

At this point, there is really no need to keep Andy Reid for anymore games. He has given up and the team has given up.

And to think, there were individuals on these boards writing that this was a championship-level team because we drafted Cox and brought in D. Ryans.

This team is relying on players who read their headlines (McCoy, Jackson, Cole, Babin) and don't really lead the team. We need to stop elevating McCoy to elite status, stop acting like our secondary will just turn in on some day, stop acting like we know how to draft defensive players, and admit that this team will be bad for the next few years.

albrock, maybe you have 6 holes in your head. Football is Football. The eagles cannot do it on the field. They are not a good team. The offensive line and other areas need work. Andy Reid will be successful elsewhere and the this team is just going through a rebuilding stage. If you cannot see that well its just your problem.

Wow rubicon, thanks for telling a group of adults what we need to think. What would we do without you? As for McCoy, if you honestly don't believe he's an elite athlete you clearly know very little about football.

To put this all in perspective: The Eagles are just 4 points away from being 0 and 10!!!

All those years of bad drafts eventually caught up to AR. Also, the more power he achieved over the years, the worse this team got. Unfortunately, he's left his successor with almost a total rebuild.

Some of Reid's coaching moves (TO before 'skins punt...running Shady 25 pts down in last 2 minutes of game, etc.) are so unexplainable that I'm starting to wonder if Reid is either: 1) trying to get fired or 2) throwing the games on purpose - I can't think of any other reason for moves that a high school coach wouldn't make.

Why allow Andy to finish out the season? We need to know who has heart and who doesnt. Only a new coach can come in and weed out the players who should stay and who should go. Andy needs to go now

The good news is that the Eagles will be drafting high for the next few years and Andy won't be making the picks.

Fire AR and Marty. Tell Howie that his job is on the line and let the players know that they are auditioning for their jobs next season as well. Every single one of them. I can only count 9 out of 22 starters staying next year. I can sum up this team in one word: Gutless.

Boop – who goes by Bob Vetrone Jr. when he is undercover or paying bills – has been at the Daily News since 1982, after working for five years at the Philadelphia Bulletin up to its closing. Along with helping to build the sports scoreboards most nights, he has had great input into the papers’ special sports pullouts – March Madness, Broad Street Run, Record Breakers, Greatest Moments – as well as its day-to-day, award-winning event coverage.

A 1980 graduate of North Catholic, he took some evening college courses. Those lasted right up until the first conflict with a Big 5 doubleheader.

His favorite books growing up were the NBA Guide and the Baseball Encyclopedia, which was, for all intents and purposes, the Internet before there was an Internet.

He has been immersed in sports statistics since the early 70s, when his father (long-time sports writer, broadcaster and the Daily News’ Buck The Bartender), would take him into the Bulletin newsroom overnight in the summer and let him update the Phillies statistics in a little, black spiral notebook. But things have changed tremendously in the decades since … He now uses a big, black spiral notebook. Email him at boopstats@phillynews.com.
