Could Andy Reid's Finale Be a Night Game?

Perhaps the irony is that the Andy Reid era is going to hang on a little longer than we thought after all ... if only for a few hours.
The NFL will enforce its flex scheduling for Week 17 no later than Monday (Merry Christmas Eve!) depending on the playoff possibilities for that weekend. (No night game has yet been scheduled at all; one will move into that NBC slot.) Since so many of the division titles are locked up and the top seeds and byes could be right behind them — and the NFC East title is guaranteed to not be clinched this weekend — Eagles-Giants and Cowboys-Redskins look to be the leaders in the clubhouse to close out the 2012 regular season.
The race for the final (or both) NFC wild-card slots may save us from yet another prime-time Birds event, but there is no denying that having a division title at stake is better for the ratings.
Here's a look at the Week 17 schedule, with records to date and a quick glance at what might be up for grabs in the contest:

- NO!!! We don't need to be embarrassed on National TV again this season! While hearing the national announcers say how great Andy Reid, and how spoiled the Eagles fans even though we haven't had an parade since 1960. Plus we will have to hear that Andy Reid will get a job within seconds of being let go by the Eagles, etc....— co
The network HOPES they are onboard for a not-so-found-farewell to AR. Without doubt, any grainy clips from the Santa Claus incident, the Jimmy Johnson snowball incident, the Michael Irvin incident, the flare gun incident; all of these old clips will have been digitally remastered for the finale. I expect a tender interview with AR and what the fans of the Eagles meant to him and his family.....soft piano music playing in the background. The game announcers and studio hosts will admonish Philadelphia, warning us that we will rue the day when AR is no longer coaching the teams. I'm not sure how this town will survive!

The Lions are probably losing out but Da Bears are in a free fall and the Birds hold the tie breaker over the Lions. Oakland may luck into another win, too.— 2ndNlong
- Wouldn't it be odd if all the hate for Andy Reid had to build another year or two if the owner re signs him ?
Is he really as bad as we think he is ? Look at all the coaches who worked under Andy, got offers to coach other teams, and are doing well. Andy must have taught them something. In all the years dating back to Joe Kuharick, I've seen coaches far worse than Andy.
Andy didn't fumble the balls, drop passes, or slip and fall on the playing field, his players did. You can't win without good players, and replacements should they get injured.— phineas - @phineas: Nobody is saying that Reid is a bad coach. All we are saying is that he has had 14 years to win a Superbowl, and couldn't get it done. It's time for a different direction and a fresh start with a new coach. We could get a worse coach who leads us to 4-12 seasons in the next few years, we could get a promising young coordinator who leads us to our first parade in 52 years. I'm willing to take the chance, and most fans are too, but its all up to Mr. Lurie and whether he is ready to make a change.— co

- A night game would be fitting, so Philly fans could show their appreciation for the Eagles' winningest coach - Andy "Big Red" Reid, by sending him off in a chorus of heartfelt applause! How would the NYC-based national media be able to continually mischaracterize Philadelphia fans, and specifically Eagles fans, after showing that type of class for our winningest coach? - Andy Reid is a great coach and many great coaches never win SBs. The idea that every coach and every team has to win a SB to be supported by fans that have never won anything is ridiculous. If the NE Patriots have as many injuries as the 2012 Eagles and lose some games Bill would be a bad coach too, I guess. Also, I guess, every coach that has coached one SB win should be in the HOF. Please! Reid is good. Philly just hates.— lbg

- Reid is a good coach. But all of his short comings over the years has cost his teams a shot of being a dynasty. The last two minutes of the super bowl. The NFC championship games that the team seemed unprepared for. And the constant poor time management and bad play calling. A fresh approach is needed.— RobertB
- I believe that Andy Reid can be a good to very good coach. I no longer buy that Andy Reid is a great coach. He came to the Eagles without Head-Coaching or Coordinator-level experience or responsibilities, so he came to the Eagles with deficiencies, namely: play-calling; game management and personnel evaluation. Reid was very successful early in his career as the Eagles HC, in spite of his flaws, and so he was never forced to improve on those flaws.
Fourteen years later and we're still witnessing the same flaws... and perhaps he's gotten worse in some of his personnel decisions (especially: coaches). Jim Johnson is no longer around to bail out Reid... and that is a big point. A lot of those coaches that have gone on to be successful with other teams worked directly under Jim Johnson (on the defensive side of the ball) and less with Reid (on the offensive side of the ball).
I thank Andy Reid for all of the good years that he gave to the team... and I am very ready for him to move on. If I was forced to attend the game against the Redskins this weekend, I would definitely give Andy a cheer at the end of the game (regardless of the score). However, if I am forced to witness another season of Reid, I won't even watch the games, even on TV and I will beg all of my family to not buy me any more Eagles merchandise. I will wait until I have heard that Reid has finally been released.
I am not worried that the next Coach will be less successful. If he is, he is... at least maybe he'll set up the coach after that with a good draft pick... and it shouldn't take another 14 years to get there. One thing I am DEFINITELY not worried about is that Reid will go on to win a Super Bowl somewhere else. Fourteen years have shown me that Reid is good. He's just not THAT good.— knighn - Thanks andy. Your allowing the Eagles to at least be able to start fresh next year. High Draft Picks that we may be able to accumulate more. We have one promising rookie QB and im sure will draft another. Oline, DT and Safety will also be addressed in the draft. Andy was a poor talent evaluator and it finally caught up with him. I wish Andy the best but i welcome any couch that understands the value of running the football and finding slot receivers that can also stretch the field and score TOUCHDOWNS— Yes_General
- Let's set the over/under line for national announcers to warn us "Be careful what you wish for Philadelphia, he's a great coach". - That's right, lbg and RobertB. Andy IS a great coach. Great at timeouts, great at using a running game, great at time management, great at being flexible and learning from his mistakes, great at promising Jeff Lurie that he could win a Super Bowl on the cheap. But best of all, great at being unable to draft NFL starters. Great coach. Which is why he will be fired from the company catapult with flaming Sterno pots duct-taped to his ankles into the Schuykill River on January 2, 2013. Now THAT would be GREAT.— NM Eagle fan
