How about Chase Utley? I look at him as the same sort of "heart and soul" type of player. I know his injuries have dimished his performance over the last three seasons, but his commitment and effort has always been "Our" kind of guy! BillinVA

love giroux but please lets wait a few years, what about? #60, # 20, #1 # 13, what about # 6, # 16 , All these guys won championships.
Let us not get ahead of ourselves now, hope G wins his first this year
looks promising. wildgreenman
There is no question but that Richie Ashburn is the most beloved Philadelphia athlete of all time. BobSG- #60? I assume you mean Bednarik. Problem is most people who sa him play are dead or dying. pbuscio
- Whitey may be most beloved personality, but not athlete. If I had to pick it would be probably Bernie Parent. pbuscio

Bobby Clarke led his team to two championships! Has any other beloved athlete in our city done this? Phillyshark12
for me, for most beloved athlete, in no special order, it's:
(PHILLIES) Richie Ashburn, Chase Utley, Robin Roberts, Tony Taylor
(FLYERS) Bobby Clarke, Bernie Parent,
(EAGLES) Chuck Bednarik, Wilbert Montgomery, Brian Dawkins, Wes Hopkins,
(SIXERS) Wilt, Billy Cunningham,
(BOXING) Joe Frazier advantasux
tie between Parent [last dominant GK we had, as record since bears out] and Steve Carlton, single best season perhaps by any pitcher [was it not about half total team wins in the 27-10 for last place team]. Not "beloved" because he would not speak to press? When he was pitching, I could have cared less if he ever spoke again. david speedie
