Delaware Mike - It took nearly an hour for my comment to show up. really though
Does anyone see Tyrus Thomas in Bismack Biyombo? Raw, athletic, long, ups...pretty average NBA player. tripleplay83- i still believe there is hope for Tyrus. He just needs to find his niche. I would take him here. He would have a very defined role. Defend and rebound.... He is one of those base year compensation guys. I would like him on this team but they are hard to trade for.
I think Turner is more suited to the PG or Point Forward position. Turner looks to pass when he has the ball, looking for cuts, seeing the play evolve, more so than Holiday. Maybe the answer is right in front of you. Do what UCLA did and move Holiday to a 2G and let Turner hold the ball, but you still need the big man patrolling the paint, or it doesn't even matter. Who knows what Sammie could have done with Collins this year, but no one fears going into our lane. Aside from figuring out how to score, you need to stop the other team from scoring in order to our system to work and to win more games. Fo Fo Fo
Small forward work out at the combine. Basic shell drill. No defenders.. A Morris twin and Jordan Hamilton are back to back. Morris drives passes to the top IMMEDIATELY went to the glass to rebound the miss and the guy who shot it did miss Morris caught it off of the rim and dunked it. Jordan Hamilton. Same exact drill. Passed to the shooter and walked out of bounds.. Oh yeah the shooter missed the shot. Scratch Hamilton. Hawes had an opportunity to post a 20 and 10. AT LEAST A 10 and 10. How many did we get!?? Give sp8ts the same minutes and touches. 4 mil for hawes?? Please. Tyrus Thomas sounds good to me. Kenyon Martin type. 3 4 and 5 defender rebounder dunker. For Noc? Hmmm. If the league has gotten younger and more athletic where does hawes come in to play.? Hawes does not posses the skill for someone his ht and mobility. I'll pass. combocancer1975- He has one of those funny contracts. We can't trade Noc because his contract is too high and we can't send someone close to his number because we are over the cap and the money we take back is too much. Maybe a third team has to get involved.
No Yao, No Oden - no money tied up in guys who will never play. Where we are picking there are a host of power forwards (no centers). That's a good place to start. 7mel11
Ho-Hum. This is getting tedious like NFL pre-draft.
I think the high prospects get more ink/air-time in college football vs. hoops. Seem to recognize fewer celebrated names in hoops pre-draft.
Power forward would be nice, but still need upgrade at 2 and 5 to advance in '12. wordsword
@ComboCancer: you have some funny idears sometimes (putting Kapono @ the 5, LOL!) but I'm glad we agree about Ming. "I like this guy, speaking a lot of sense, know what I mean!?"- Republican Space Rangers BlackFeet01
Nice conversation, no real earth shattering points other than the Yao mention. I would love to have Yao from 5 years ago. I would hate to use up valuable cap money on a guy who can't play (see Shaq & the Celtics). It's time for Thorn and Stefamski to earn their money. Do your due diligence! mtairy1
I like Lou Will, but I think the Sixers should trade him. Evan will play the two next season and Meeks will come off the bench. He adequately replaces Lou as instant offense off the bench (in fact he's a better defender). Plus, Lou is a good player with a reasonable contract, so he will be in demand. Lou and the #16 could land us in the top 10 for a good PF (Bismack, Kanter, Motiejunas). Then we need a back up PG and they are a dime a dozen (third string PG actually, since Evan will play point a few minutes per game). Evan at the three is a bad idea- Andre and Thad have that covered. If they trade Andre, I'll re-evaluate, but Turner has a size advantage at guard and he has the defensive ability to play it, so take advantage of that. Playing him at the three is a waste. I'd hate to see Lou go, but his 40% FG's and small stature make him replaceable in the Sixers perimeter log jam. incog69
Next seasons lineup: Jrue (36 mpg), Evan (36 mpg), Andre (36 mpg), Elton (30 mpg), Spence (24 mpg). The only major change from last season is with Evan getting an incresase of 13 mpg. Off the bench: Jodie (24 mpg), Thad (30 mpg), top 10 pick (24 mpg). This team is better than last season for several reasons. The young guys will be better. The team will carry over from the end of last season when they were much better than at the beginning. They will be bigger thanks to the draftee. I think 50 wins is possible with this group, but the East will be hard to call next season with the Knicks and Nets having full seasons with their elite players. The Sixers will win with depth, athleticism, team play, team chemistry and good coaching. incog69
One specific area of improvement that the Sixers will need to become a 50 win team is FT shooting. Andre had a terrible year at the line. He needs to get back to 75%. He gets to the line a lot and I for me, his low FT percentage is the most frustrating aspect of his game. Spencer was dreadful at the line last year and for a center who has the green light to shoot 17 footers in the flow of the offense, he nees to be at 70% from the line. Then, Thad needs to get into the upper 70%'s- he also has the green light to stroke the J, and he's working on the corner '3', so let's not forget about the Ft's while we're at it. It's simple, it's boring, but it's freakin' important. If we want to win, we need to get better FT production from those three guys. incog69
