PK Loves Eagles, Sure, But Loves Giants More

POSTED: Tuesday, May 12, 2009, 12:51 AM

I know what you've read and heard. Peter King, NFL savant for Sports Illustrated, loooooves him some Eagles draft. Well, true as that might be, it doesn't mean Peter thinks the Eagles will even win the NFL East division this season.

That is, if you ascribe to King's post-draft, post-free agency power rankings of the 32 NFL teams.

Now, No. 6 isn't so bad, and that's where King places the Eagles. He still loooooves the additions of Jeremy Maclin and LeSean McCoy to the offense.

"I think this team gives (Donovan McNabb) a better chance than the first Terrell Owens team in Philly," King writes.

But, but, but, the Giants are ranked third in the league? Third! The choking dogs that lost to the Eagles in the postseason, with a teensy, tiny effort from quarterback Eli Manning. Third! Still reeling from the loss of Plaxico "Damn, was that my gun?" Burress. Third!

"New York has an excellent chance to go to the Super Bowl for the second time in three years," King writes.

I respect Peter King. He works hard at his job. Good, solid work. Real work. But you have to take the whole body of work. If you are thrilled that he looooves the Eagles draft, then you have to wonder what he's thinking when it comes to the Giants. (And the Bears are ranked ahead of the Eagles, too. I'll fade that bet.)

Kevin Kolb is the Samuel Dalembert of the NFL. Great "upside", never gonna produce.

The Eagles are good, the Giants are good and so are the Cowboys, and the Redskins aren't bad. It's going to be another battle. Power Rankings in May are STUPID. Who wins in November, December and of course January is all that matters. That's a long way off and so much will change between now and then.

Eli without Plax was horrendous. Look what DMac has done without a #1 WR or even a #2 WR...

Thank goodness I'm one of the lunatic fringe that while loving every second of the Phils march into history last year, I couldn't wait for the start of the Iggles training camp! And so it goes this year as well. I'm trying to not get too excited yet, but looking at the roster as it exists today......welllllll, it looks GOOD!

I agree 5, they did play poorly. I remember Tra missing a LB blitz that got DM killed. He sat on the bench next to Herremanns and you could tell he said "I missed him". That was part of the reason they lost but the Eagles were ahead in the 4th despite their play. I still think the D had a worse day than the O. Maybe the best thing to say is that there are multiple reasons a team wins or looses. The QB takes the brunt and gets the credit disproportionally but there are usually many factors from the coach on down.

Me too, tbear. I think it's because I've nmever seen them win a championship, having just missed the '60 game. And after so many dreadful teams over the years it's nice to always be in the hunt. The Es have as good a chance as anyone.

Congrats wolf, we finally agree on something. I wish he'd play less hyper in the playoffs. Maybe we can both be happy in the end?
