Aside from the fact that it is a spat between guys named Jay and Josh -- which makes it sound more like an argument over a squash hinder at Dartmouth -- there is something we can all learn from the current personnel issues suffered by the Denver Broncos.

As it relates to your Philadelphia Eagles directly, there isn't much there. The chance that Andy Reid would approve or even consider any combination of draft picks and Donovan McNabb for the right to listen to Jay Cutler's whining is so slim that our local head coach would need to squint to see it.

For a good take on the latest goings-on in Denver, read the post from Sam Adams on the site InDenverTimes. We will pause for a moment to ask you to consider subscribing to the site, which is run by former Rocky Mountain News staffers, good journalists who had the poor luck to watch their newspaper fold beneath them. Hey, could happen to all of us. And I know you would support us.

Anyway, Cutler -- who has led the Broncos to zero playoff appearances -- is the anti-Donovan, in many respects. If you wish McNabb were more demonstrative over his career when it comes to taking on the organization, here's a good look at what you've been missing. It is a large ego, surrounded by a football player who has achieved exactly nothing.

And why is Cutler able to create such havoc? Because there is a new coach who doesn't have much leverage yet, so he is being tested. Those who would like to see Andy Reid move on have to remember that the next guy, whoever that might be, would need a couple years to settle into the job. And during that time, there could be chaos. And beyond that time, too.

Say what you will about Reid. Aside from the very brief 2005 acid trip that was Terrell Owens, there is never chaos here. Not a lot of Super Bowl trophies, either, one must admit. But never chaos. The inmates don't run the asylum, the rats don't chase the cat.

And nobodies like Jay Cutler don't hold a franchise hostage.

Cutler is petulant at 25, McNabb is too, at 33! I know you want to hear from Wolf on the subject, and since it's probably past his bedtime, here's what he recently posted: Cutler threw for 8,000 yards the last two seasons 45 tds is seven years younger has played in his second full season and pro bowl 2008,,donovan has not sniffed a probowl for the last five seasons since 2004 is 33 years old is injury prone missed 2 out of last four seasons...this is another golden opportunity for the eagles just like the arizona cardinals game don't let donovan be the road block again.......to eagles brass:this is a no brainer GET IT DONE!!

Harry - I agree with you that Sheridan is a management shill, but Bob has become one as well. Plus, he basically stole the Cutler comments from the CBSSportsline writer, who said the exact same thing (Cutler's achieved nothing, etc). Jay Cutler has started exactly 2 seasons in the NFL and has the worst defense in the league. I would trade McNabb and a #2 in a millisecond for Cutler. McNabb has been in the league for 10 years and has...ZERO championships repeatedly with a top 10 defense and an amazing special teams unit to support him. Give me a break, Bob. Stop shilling for Banner, et. al.

Cutler also compared himself favorably to Elway, said "there's no way we're missing the playoffs....." before missing the playoffs, etc. He's a knucklehead. MIllion dollar arm, ten cent brain. Also, Culter plays the Raiders and Chiefs 4 games/year. Not exactly the NY Giants.

Bob, if by the anti-McNabb you mean he still has those things hanging between his legs, then I agree. I think McFatty threw his up on the field in Jacksonville and hasn't seen them since.

McNabb's QB rating in 2007 was 89.9 and Cutler's was 88.1. McNabb's rating in 2008 was 86.4 and Cutler's was 86.0. So please stop acting like McNabb hasn't put up good numbers. In fact, McNabb threw for 3,916 yards last season which was the most in his career and also the most passing yards for one season in Eagles history. He also for the most TD passes he's had since 2004. True, he only threw for 23 TDs, but during his first 4 seasons (including 3 NFC championship game appearances), he only threw for 21, 25, 17 and 16 TDs. In fact, McNabb has had a higher QB rating in each of his last 3 seasons than he had in any of those first 5 pre-TO seasons and the Eagles won a lot of games and a lot of playoff games during those early years. The stats don't back up McNabb bashing. If you want to argue pure stats, go take a look at the stats of Terry Bradshaw, a guy who won 4 Superbowls. In fact, McNabb's career stats are better than Aikman's and as good as Steve Young's stats. Go look them up. Now if you want to solely argue that McNabb hasn't won a Superbowl, that's fine. But if you're going to argue that, well, Cutler hasn't even won a playoff game let alone a Superbowl so you can't have it both ways. If we're going to compare playoff performance, McNabb has 1 Superbowl appearance, 5 NFC championship game appearances and a lot of playoff victories. So Cutler's playoff performance doesn't compare to McNabb. If you simply hate McNabb for personal reasons, then fine, just be honest about it.

I find it ironic that, as much as the Eagles are getting bashed by fans for not doing enough for their players or giving golden parachute contracts to aging veterans along with cakes and going away parties, here are the Broncos (the team that Dawkins signed with) ruling with an iron fist and McDaniel hasn't even been a head coach in the NFL. I saw an article on ESPN that was basically praising him for bringing the Belichek/Patriot way of not giving players any special treatment and treating them all like just another guy. Yet, the Eagles try to retain Dawkins but refuse to overpay him and they get ripped. Quite ironic. Of course, McDaniel might want to win a few games before he gets too rigid with his players...Bellichek can get away with that, he's got the rings to back it up.
