Andy Reid will remain as the head coach of the Philadelphia Eagles despite a disappointing season. The Inquirer's Bob Ford discusses Eagles president Jeffrey Lurie's decision to keep the embattled coach around for another season.

For all of you Andy Reid supporters: 1. How many more seasons without Andy winning a super bowl are going to be enough? 1? 3? 5? 10? 15? 2. Will you want to keep Andy if he wins 10 games each season and loses in the playoffs? 3. Will replacing Andy lead to another Rich Kotite, Ray Rhodes era? 4. Are there any coaches that can possible do a betterf job than Andy? One of my co-workers who is an Andy supporter demanded that I give the names of coaches that would be better for the eagles than Andy.. I answered him by posing a question. I said, "If your doctor constantly messed up, could you as a non-medical professional automatically replace him with someone better? Wouldn't you seek advice from people who were knowedgable" In other word, do you need to name a successor in order to replace someone who wasn't satisfactory?

and why should he....he has won nothing of importance in 13 years....he has had disasterous drafts, and he continually talks down to the fans....He is an arrogant bore who is also the coach who has not acheived the only thing anybody plays for

Drumgoole, you presuppose that everyone agrees with you that anything less than a superbowl win equals failure. Many of us Reid supporters remember suffering through losing season after losing season, so we appreciate the coach with the highest winning percentage in the last half-century. And by the way, Kotite has the 2nd highest winning percentage.

PS, Drumgoole. I'd be much happier with 10 wins/year (Reid's average) than with the .458 winning percentage of all the coaches from 1961 until Reid (.458 means an average of 7 wins/year).
By defining success as winning a superbowl, you are setting yourself up for failure every year. As the doctor said to the patient complaining that "It hurts every time I do this", "Stop doing it."

I'm amazed at how many people still support A.R. At this point, he has as many SB victories as I do. Some of you act like there's NO other coach out there. Anywhere. 13 years is enough, time to try (and possibly fail, but at least try) with another coach

He doesn't talk down to the fans, he just doesn't open up to the media or fans. The Eagles are a private business, not a public corporation. He certainly could be more entertaining but that might upset the roster. I would rather have a coach the players loved and hated by the fans and media than the other way around.

Supporters are missing the pint. Lurie went off on "track record". Reid's "track record" is he cannot beat teams at higher levels. He was too stubborn and system oriented early. He is a control freak who cannot evaluate defensive talent and an over matched game day coach, who ran one of the most embarrassing non two minute drills in history when it counted most. He has a BELOW a 40% lifetime against teams with winning records, is 4-17 against AFC playoff teams, and 3-9 in playoffs past first game. HE CAN"T WIN AGAINST VERY GOOD COMPETITION. There is no indication he has the ability to fix his flaws and blind spots.
If we had been 3-13 like San Fran, then 10-6 and a playoff win would be great. But after 5-6 gut wrenching playoff seasons, I'm not interested anymore.
He is the Marty Schottenheimer of the NFC. How many of you want him here? If Reid is extended I will no no longer be a fan of the Eagles. The dismissing of the fans and the disconnect and the _inability to close__ are too much.

It's time for Reid to go. His coaching philosophy of wide open offense is definitely fun to watch when it's clicking but too often breaks down, provides turnovers, and puts the defense on the field too often. No defense, even the leaky Eagles defense, can standup to that much time on the field. Let's get back to NFC East football, stellar defense and balanced offense.

If Reid was a real man, he would leave on his own. He would realize that his time is up and move on just like real professionals do. Lurie is incapable of acting, he is able to intellectualize the problem away.
